Just as it was announced that Adele‘s record-breaking album, 25, sold 1 million copies a week for 2 weeks in a row, along comes Coldplay dethroning her at #1.
The British band’s latest album, A Head Full of Dreams, was released yesterday — and hit #1 just days after the group’s collabo with Beyonce hit the Internet.
Coldplay’s “Hymn for the Weekend”, featuring Bey, helped catapult Coldplay’s ‘Dreams’ past Adele’s 25 without looking back.
‘Dreams’ includes a sampled speech from Barack Obama, and a choir with Beyonce and Jay Z‘s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
Adele’s fans hope she will retake the #1 spot when ‘Dreams’ cools off, but not if Beyonce’s fans have anything to do with it.
The Creole Queen strikes again!
Congrats to them. I wonder if they’re gonna bring her out when they perform at the SuperBowl ?
I miss the good ole days when I used to care about who was at the top of charts. My friends and I used to spend hours discussing which diva had the best voice… Whitney, Anita, Phyllis, Stephanie, Angela, Teena, Micki….
I like Adele, Coldplay & Beyonce music…..i wish all 3 the best.
2nd this post!! ?
I just came in here to say that Columbus Short and Superhead are together–despite thr fact he’s still married. And she posted something about “our son” and the boy in the pic looks to be about 14 or so…
P.S. Columbus Short is a singer now. ??
Bey is still Queen! Love it. For a minute I was worried the queen has been dethroned. PHEW***
I just read a playlist that a blogger posted to their IG page. I have not a clue how any of the songs sound on said playlist, because I’ve never heard one of them. The list was comprised of people such as Future and Young Thug. It’s not easy to see how and why white artists can dominate the charts when the Black music that is promoted and emphasized is about nothing of substance. “Trap music,” “trap queens,” butt shaking, materialism, etc. I grew up in the “Versace raps” era, so I know who is responsible for introducing materialism to rap. But these clowns today have taken it to an all new low. I only listen to a few rappers these days, and they’re underground. Everything else is probably 10 years old or older.
#word. Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Pac, Old Jay Z & Old Kanye are my go-tos for rap. I catch a hit or two here and there, but Shmurda & Thugger….nope. I have no clue what Future says.
Please. Coldplay doesn’t’ need a collab with Beyonce to go to number one.
Thank you!!! I am clueless as it pertains to what Future is saying. I don’t understand how people can listen to him and find him and rappers like him entertaining.
I notice his album is Dirty Sprite. If I am not mistaken, that’s Sprite with codeine stuff -promethazine (sp). Basically high music. Lil Wayne and the rest of the tattooed to filth click all look high af. I figure that’s who can relate to the music. Like he’s high, they’re high, nobody knows the words and it’s all good. If that’s not the case, I’m lost.
I’m glad someone shot that very average voice songbird out the sky. Now she see it ain’t all about her or that very average album 25.
Coldplay has real fans that buy music and is a UK artist too (real music, real fans)! The Beyonce collaboration was a plus+, especially since they’ve joined forces with Tidal, but the band would have hit number 1 regardless. It’s not like the single hit like Adele’s Hello! Chris Martin has been working and promoting this album like crazy and he’s been everywhere in a low-key, in your face manner!
Angela Winbush. That’s my girl. Luv me some Miki and Anita too. But the god mother of the screaming divas is Teena.. Patti is the mother of them all
I used to like Wayne, but I haven’t been a listener/supporter of his since 2009/2010. His music fell way off. I suppose he hit a slump, in part, because he is tired and probably needs to do more than work. He deserves to have a life. He has been releasing albums since he was in his teens. He should be able to afford to take a hiatus and work on developing other artists rather than being everywhere and everything to everyone.
Future is not someone I understand, nor do I care to. He, 2 Chainz, Young Thug, Rick Ross (post-“Hustlin’), Gucci Mane…they can all disappear. That Quan dude… Again, I don’t see it. I’m certain I’m not their demographic, and that’s fine. I just prefer work that is substantive. I always have.
I love MF Doom and Curren$y. I listen to them faithfully and will continue to support their projects. Beyond them, I’m not rushing off to Amazon or any retailers that sell CDs (because I still buy physical copies of albums when I buy them) to buy any of the current crop of rappers. I like Kendrick Lamar “Alright.” I’m not sure I’d like his entire body of work, but he has another song he is featured on that I really like, too.
You forgot Nasir ?
Yes I did! And on this subject: Hip Hop is Dead. ?
Congrats, I love Bey. Coldplay is pretty cool as well. Speaking of music,
My girl Monica has a new song…
New Monica song, a beautiful ballad called -“I know”
Watch “Monica – I Know (Audio)” on YouTube
https://youtu.be/_9yOSw0Jgoc
Lol I went to a signing when that album came out. Almost asked him if I could have a piece of his hair lmfao.
My mom plays all the great stuff as well, that’s where my love for R&B came from, my ear for real music, and true vocalist.
Yes to everything you said. I like music that makes you think, laugh, dance, remember, etc. Drake has a couple I like. I made an exception for Rick Ross with Hold Me Back. That’s my ? when I have obstacles in front of me. But nobody has consistent jams like Outkast did. Even Usher lost his direction. SMH
So am I. My go to for rap and r&b is 95 to 2010. The past 5 years has been trash
Can’t listen to the song anywhere
I like a lot of Drake’s music, save for “Hotline Bling.” I can’t with that song. I haven’t delved deeply into Rick Ross. I’m not attracted to the notion that he is a studio gangster with moobs who has no respect for women. I will not give that man $1 of my coin.
Usher lost his direction because he lets those old hags run his life. He has mama issues. Had his mother raised him and not pawned him off to Puff Daddy for the purpose of fame and riches, he would be more inclined to choose a better caliber of woman. Grace has been THOTing and boppin’, conservatively, since the late 80’s. Bonita Applebum is circa 1990. When I found out that song was penned about HER, I wanted to yell, “Usher, you in danger, girl!” It was too late. My voice was too soft.
I doubt that her “stans” are going to purchase a Coldplay album because she’s the featured artist on their record.
Usher, you in danger, girl—-LMAO!!!!! I knew he was in a world of hurt when he married Tameka. She saw Mr. Young & Hot and swooped in. She hurried up and had his babies, had him convinced that everybody was hating. From Chili to Meka to Grace (I was shocked about Bonita too), he went from Mama to Mommy to Meemaw. Of course it all comes from Mom.
Drake is cool with me because he’s a thinker but it gets a lil too squeaky. Other stuff… he needs to remove the beat, put on a turtleneck & beret and sit on a stool in a smoke filled room. Or keep it in his diary.
HA HA!!! I did that with Talib. I have hella photos from the same angle. Stuck on wide-eyed drool.
I can see Drake now…
“Are you there, God? It’s me, Aubrey. I got my first chest hair today. I tried to curl it with my finger, but it wasn’t long enough.
Keisha used to call me on my cell phone. Now she won’t even look my way. Did I do something wrong? I thought she found me attractive. Was it those Red Wing boots? I let her wear my OVO jacket and all the girls were so jealous. Maybe my battery died and I just missed her call. TTYL.”
Re: Usher: A former friend of mine revealed that Tameka plotted and schemed on ways to get Usher to marry her. It was a goal of hers to marry an R&B singer. (Her words.)
Preach, Tiny Bubbles! ?
Ha ha! I love the Aubrey scenario.
Tameka doesn’t surprise me at all. She is from Oakland. I was born there and still have many people there. My in-laws rep The Town for life. Unless you were born with $$, it’s all hustle all day. That she has enough skill to rub elbows with decent money, means your hustle is paying off. Hustle mentality, presentation and patience can get anything you want in this world.
Her son is 17. Columbus has been recording/singing for years. When people call themselves becoming a family, men sometimes refer to their stepchildren as their children. Kroy claimed Kim Zolciak’s children that aren’t biologically his, and later adopted them.
You may be able to get something, but retaining it: priceless.
Don’t all women plot to get a man, dressing to the 9’s, bathing, giving all kinds of wild sex, pretending they care.
PER MEN
Like Granny said, do what you did to get them to keep them.
So I’m looking forward to Coldplay at the SB halftime show. I’m sure they’ll bring Beyonce on stage.
#word
I thought it was just me. You know she’s getting all that damn attention cuz she’s white. Same voice, same song, but black artist, she’d barely see 100,000 units sold.
She sang this last Saturday. I love this one.
Bey doesn’t even really sing on the song just background. Coldplay is an amazing group and has a huge fanbase. Please believe they don’t need Beyonce or anyone to help them sale albums.
I don’t know all men, but I don’t typically hear men complain about women plotting against them. I see men who need good women but can’t get or keep them because the men need work. I see good women who deserve good men but can’t find them, in some cases because the women are too willing to settle for anything rather than wait for the right thing/person.
Say it! Chile Don’t come in here with these facts. ?
Their last 2-3 albums been number 1. ?
We agree on something else. Cause I’m a music fanatic
What about Lisa Fischer??
Teena might have been a screamer. But that heffa OWNED that bass and slide guitar. I still love that Lover Girl video. Lil 110 pound woman danced that heavy ass guitar all around that stage. She was everything. Fire on the piano too.
I have a huge thing for female guitar players. Bonnie Raitt. Teena. Joan Jett. Tracy Chapman.
I can’t believe those words even came from Sandra. She is still running the blog right???
Chile I swear folks give Bey way too much credit…. Cold Play been selling albums Chile… Bey who?
I’m hushing on that before her ass pop up like that “missing” boy in that basement in Detroit did. While his daddy was ON TV.
Lisa, Meli’sa Morgan, Vesta, Jennifer Holliday (I Am Love)…we could be here all night!
I used to spend a ton of money on music, music related books, and videos. Like the O’Jays said, “I love music; any kind of music….”
Of course you don’t know all men. Thankfully I am blessed wother a wonderful husband. Unfortunately I’ve heard more than one man say women try and trap them because of what they have or think they have. The issue with folks they are honest about their expectations. This is just my opinion, I’m no Dr. Ruth or Ms. Vazant.
that title is 2 make ppl come & discredit the queen ?? & it worked!
The same comments you’ve made about women apply to men. Golddiggers have no gender. They have no race. They are just entitled people who think that, when they’re with someone who has something, what that person has is also theirs.
Not sure what your husband or marital status have to do with this exchange, but I’m not here for grandstanding. One woman’s blessing is another woman’s curse. Good luck to you.
Thanks Dub. Oh I love Coldplay.
Lol
Lmfaooo why are you under ever post that deals with Beyoncé with hate literally every single one !!! Y’all don’t got nothing else to do ?
Ah. That Miso Soup. Emperor’s Delight out this bish. ?
Drank two of those Sayonara’s or a Sake flight for me!
Angela is no joke. Her live version of The Power of Love is the truth! I like Stephanie’s rendition, but Angela took that song, which she wrote, to another level.
Lol he did. Thank you again for the recommendation we enjoyed it ?
Eye said I’d wrap a few things and my friend brought it all out. Hell I don’t emm wrap stuff at home lol.
I will never forget the first time I heard Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” It was the wee hours of the morning and I was sitting on the sidewalk outside of Carson’s, waiting to buy tickets to Prince’s Lovesexy tour.
By the time Tracy’s song was over, I had tears in my eyes.
I’m also a fan Bonnie Raitt and Joan Jett. I’d also like to add Chrissie Hynde to that list!
I’m probably much older than you are, because when I think of rap, I think of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Sequence, Kurtis Blow, The Sugarhill Gang, “I Had to Say It” by Millie Jackson, Mc Lyte, Salt N’ Peppa, Too Short….
My R&B and pop catalog goes back to the 60s.
YW? That is an OLD 919 special occasion institution. Many birthdays, promotions, everything been celebrated at that place. Just celebrated their 40th year last year. I luh them?
We do too, the couples next to us were nice as well. Good time had by all.
Everyone was like you going to see WHO ? back in October when I went to see Joan.
Joan Fugging Jett. And her Blackhearts. That’s who.
I will see you a Chrissie and raise you a Melissa Etheridge. She bad AF on the guitar too.
There are a lot of fiercely talented female musicians out there. Many of them are sadly underrated.
MC Lyte best female to EVER do it. I heard Paper Thin/Lyte As A Rock, and 11 year old me was changed forever. Fall 1988. I have tried to trace my love of hip hop back, and I always say I think that was it. The “moment”
I grew up listening to all kinds of music. My father loves jazz. My mom listens to everyone from Mahalia Jackson to Alice Cooper. Needless to say, my musical taste is all over the place.
Where’s your football for Sybil? ???
I too got taken advantage of today for my love of wrapping gifts
She did miss a few sprinkles out of this one. ?
No mention of cocktail lounge singer etc, and no mention of her being friends with his ex-wife.
+1. I get teased. Still. Still. From classmates to now my damn kids. I’m used to it?.
My dad the jazz fan. My mother listens to EVERYTHING. They both do. But my mom? Even country. And she still biggest Rolling Stones fan I personally know
I see Sybil
“I Cram to Understand U” and “Cappuccino” were my favorites, but for me, when I heard Millie Jackson’s “I Had to Say It,” I was like, “Whoa! What the f@#k is this?!”
Dub20 getting took advantage of soon as her ass gets back to town tomorrow. Library card cancelling man is no more. For years that used to be his job *snorts*
She sounds like my mom. One minute she’s singing Aretha Franklin’s “Spirit in the Dark” and the next, she’s rocking out to Pink Floyd. LMAO!
Library card cancelling man…so funny that this is his description!
My sister used to get good money during the holidays wrapping gifts for family friends when she was a teenager. I hope y’all charged these people for your services. Because if y’all didn’t, Macy’s sure would have.
Knew this was coming…
I don’t like wrapping lol but it’s his birthday so I obliged.
Wait, what???? That is just odd on so many levels to me.
Lmao
Tee hee
Goodnight.
nuice, cause I am tired of Adelle
I’m officially ready to go see Jesus with Clemson ending as football Number 1. ? Clem-son. I’m so damn..stunned. Gn
Definitely, same here. I love all types of music as well, but R&B just feeds my soul.
I heart Salt & Pepa. I still listen to Hot, Cool & Vicious, with the OG Spinderella on the cover. I definitely wasn’t here to amass a catalog from the 60’s, but I am familiar with all of the artists you mentioned. I know Angie Stone was in Sequence because I lost a radio station contest where that was the answer. I lost due to age! I didn’t know she was in a group prior to Vertical Hold. ? Coincidentally, Spinderella was the one hosting the radio show! Lol
I’m not terribly familiar with Millie Jackson’s discography, but the “F*ck You Symphony” is pure brilliance. Black Sheep sampled it, which was the first time I recall hearing it. Ms. Jackson is really the godmother of hip-hop. Chaka Khan did a lot for hip-hop, too, c. 1980 when she released her self-titled album “Chaka.” She was rapping on the “Be Bop Medley, et al.” track. That is one of my favorite songs to date.
I think the first time I heard rap was when I was 8. It was a Run DMC song. I later bought a Heavy D & The Boyz tape. I grew up listening to heavy metal, rock, punk, new wave and the obligatory 80’s pop music. I studied classical violin after I discovered rap and really began appreciating orchestral arrangements in music (Claire Fisher was my favorite).
Second attempt ever at drinking. Lol goodnight
I know that’s right
I like country music.
But have they sold 3.4 million albums in 1 week? Um no

I’m aware of how blended families work, just as I am aware that he is still married and she was JUST in a relationship (living with) with someone else not even a yr ago. I wonder how many “step dads” her child has had in his life.

Claire Fisher is a genius! I used to write songs and everything I know about composing strings, I learned from Fisher! I was introduced to Fisher’s work via Prince.

It’s kind of crazy contributing this accomplishment to Beyonce’……..Coldplay has a HUGE following and I guarantee your fave lists them as one of their faves.

Yes, Deniece Williams, Melissa Morgan, Regina Bell etc..??????
Coldplay allday
Favorite Deniece Williams song: Strangers. Favorite Regina Belle song: Glitter/After the Love Has Lost Its Shine.
She can’t stand to see anyone else get shine, my goodness.
I don’t even like hello???
Everyone grew up listening all kinds of music. Being Cuban Latin music is apart of my culture which I am proud of. Everybody listens to different kinds of music not just you.
The music industry should be about DIVERSITY. Everybody does not have to sing the same or have the best voice. Leave that debate to the music industry experts who really know music.
You beat me to this comment. More like, Beyonce needed them to reach a new market.
I am still rebounding over The Ohio State
That’s not true. I know many people who only listen to a particular genre of music. Your assertion that “everyone listens to different kinds of music” is false.
…
well look at that !
It’s the best song since we are the world, let these folks tell it.
Thank ya??? if that’s what they call the voice. Then music as we know it is dead. She can’t compare to CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams. Mariah Carey on her bad day. Don’t get me wrong she’s good……. but not gerat
Lmao who said it couldn’t be done?
Ok, let me break it ALL THE WAY DOWN for yall. Hip hop isn’t dead, it’s just been in a coma for over 15 years now. Although I was a big fan being a certified dancer, In the early 90’s hammer, vanilla ice, 2 live crew, and that whole movement slowed “real hip hop” down a little. Then you had acts like tribe, outkast, wu, biggie, leaders of the new school, de la soul, the fugees, etc bring it back… (read more in my next post…)
In the mid 90’s, and GOD KNOWS I truly respect this man, but the richest person in hip hop, Puffy, single handedly crippled “real hip hop” and it hasn’t recovered since. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not personally saying Its a good or bad thing, like mother nature, she knows no good or evil, JUST BALANCE, it is what it is! Then after puffy mid 90s movement came other similar “flashy” acts to change the game completely. By the late 90s early 2000s you had a few acts like jay, em, and lauryn to try and revive hip hop, but even that wasn’t enough. I’m from the Atl, and rep my city all day, but once we got a hold of your so called “real hip hop”, we put it in a permanent coma with all of our dance rap songs. #leanwithit #walkitout #superman etc… No one, not even Drake or Kendrick could revive your “real hip hop” after that. In closing, in order to receive something, you must give something of yourself or sacrifice in return. Hip hop has given up some authenticity, but in return has provided nice lifestyles for many. Please be thankful for that atleast and keep it pushing.
Please get your facts straight…Coldplay debuted at #1 on the rock charts but Adele still dominated the Billboard 200 pop charts selling more than three times the number of albums that Coldplay sold and outperforming expectation again. Please see for yourself…http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6805727/adeles-25-no-1-on-billboard-200-album-chart-third-week-coldplay-a-head-full-of-dreams
