The NY Daily News reports ‘Mob Wives’ star Big Ang has lost her battle with stage 4 lung cancer. The 55-year-old reality TV star died Thursday morning in a hospital.
A family source stated she died from complications of pneumonia after she stopped taking cancer treatments.
Loved ones denied earlier reports of her death., but her Twitter account later confirmed that she died at 3:01 a.m., the Daily News reports.
The reality TV star whose government name was Angela Raiola, was hospitalized earlier this month. Her family said she was in constant pain and they created a GoFundme page to collect $25,000 to pay for cannabis oil pain medicine which wasn’t covered by regular insurance.
The Gofundme account raised over $45,000 in 2 weeks.
Raiola was diagnosed with throat cancer in early 2015. After undergoing surgery to remove the tumor, the cancer returned aggressively in December and spread to her brain and lungs.
After being released from the hospital in early February, she appeared on The Dr. Oz Show to say she left her husband, Neil Murphy, because he didn’t stepped up as a man to support her.
“I felt like he never stepped up to the plate, so I was done with it,” she told Dr. Oz. “Now, it’s too late. I would rather be by myself. I would rather be alone.”
Raiola is survived by her sister, Janine Detore, her two children, Raquel and Anthony Donfrio, and her six grandchildren.
