A Georgia judge has ordered five teenagers involved in a deadly street brawl to stay off the Internet while they remain free on bond.
The five teens, all ages 18 and 19, are awaiting murder charges in the death of 18-year-old Demajhay Bell, who died during a massive street brawl Richmond County, GA on March 18.
Bell was stabbed in the neck during the brawl that was triggered by a social media feud between two high school girls. He died several days later from massive blood loss.
Judge Albert M. Pickett granted bond to five of the ten people charged with felony murder in connection with the deadly street fight.
The judge ordered the teens to stay off social media and he banned use of electronic devices including smartphones and laptops. They must also obey a 6:30 p.m. curfew.
The brawl was captured on multiple smartphones and uploaded to video streaming websites.
At one point the brawl involved up to 30 people slugging it out on a normally quiet residential street.
“This is one of the most senseless murders that we’ve had,” Richmond County Sheriff Richard Roundtree told ABC8 News.
“The brawl itself was a coordinated effort,” Roundtree said. “The group in the neighborhood knew the other group was coming to fight.”
Roundtree said Bell was an innocent bystander who did not participate in the brawl.
“The person who stabbed him was a friend of his. He wasn’t the intended victim.”
All ten defendants face life in prison if convicted on all charges.
