Tyler Perry's holiday film 'Boo! A Madea Halloween' edged out 'Jack Reacher: Never Go Back' for the #1 spot at the box office this weekend.

According to, 'Boo! A Madea Halloween' grossed a weekend total of $27.6 million at 2,260 theaters.

'Jack Reacher' grossed $23 million at 3,780 theaters.

'Madea Halloween' was expected to take the #2 spot after 'Jack Reacher' took the early lead on Friday.

Nate Parker's slavery film Birth of a Nation landed at the #15 slot with a weekend gross of $925,000, for a total of $14,190,181 in ticket sales after 3 weeks in theaters.

    I'm not a total Tyler Perry fan but, I don't knock his success and most of his stuff is entertaining in light of all this craziness in the world. Congrats on that big win! I think I would want to punch him if I knew him personally so, I'll continue just being entertained by him on t.v. through the comedy and keep rolling my eyes at the stereotypes he plays around with.

    I saw the movie on friday and.... it was funny but the plot was really stupid. The way Tyler perry made his father character look in this movie was pathetic. BUt that's my opinion.

    Congrats Tyler Perry, Tom Cruise pulled out all the stops. He was even doing his Risky Buisness dance on Late Night with James Cordon and Mission Impossible to get people to the box office but in the end TP won. I am so happy for him.

    yeah, it was actually a good movie. He played a cross dresser who had to take care of this chick's daughter cause chick was on drugs and not about shitt or something like that if I can remember properly. He wasn't with another dude or anything. I got caught up in the storyline that I forgot it was him playing the part. It was really more about the kid than him and his lifestyle.

Particularly interesting when the woman the men raped committed suicide because of said rape and the harassment she received afterward. Choices. Choices.

    This is why Black America has no leaders. Someone stands up to make a film about someone who stood up to our oppressors, and history repeats its self. Black man stands up, he's knocked down. Either he's defamed and charged with some heinous crime, hit with failure to pay taxes or killed. Nate Parker makes the film no one thought would ever be made, he's defamed. He's called a rapist even though he was acquitted. This man has existed in Hollywood for how long now and this is now bigger than this film that might inspire some black folks to take a stand. Fell right into the enemies trap. Doesn't take y'all much to get tricked.

    My thoughts exactly. They would have learned something by seeing Birth of A Nation like the fact we are not African Americans we are Native Americans.
