I’ve worked with at risk youth for a few years through a military program and if anything like this came out of my mouth, those kids would have went nuts, I would have been fired, lost rank and taken before the state review board.

Sorry to say but this is the culture here…. a lot of the white people are very comfortable and so are blacks with this way of being. I find it appalling. Most of the inner city whites have black men, children and half siblings for outer breeding and it is tolerated pretty much. I had to set some things straight in my motorcycle club behind this. My son told me that ALL of the black girls at his school talk back to the teacher and are disrespectful. I tried to defend these girls but he was adamant about it and he also said that his guy friends feel the same way. These kids are just too grown. I have teachers in my family and they agree with my son.

My family member had to check so many black little girls because they tried to run the classroom. Some them got smart and started cussin back. One white lady came in the office crying because she had cursed in class. I told her thats ok, most had done it. Now im in the college and the white kids go outside and smoke and thats about it. I walk past black kids (students) in the hall, they all loud and cussing…dont care what they say even when employees are walking by. I’m tired of people excusing this behavior.

Frustration does not give anyone a pass to be or make extremely racist statements, her training as a teacher should have shown her to leave the class to calm down, go get the principle, etc. This is an example of how this person truly feels about the students she teaches, frustration is just the scapegoat!

I agree with you but, a lot of Black parents are not very active in their child/children’s education. Knowing that the student(s) have support does make a difference. It is true that many teachers regardless of race do show prejudice/bias against Black students and some times others of color but; not very often for others. It does NOT excuse this type of behavior from teachers nor anyone else but, it is hard when children are not being properly raised and then some parents do not believe their kids are capable of being awful. People saying there should be more Black men as teachers…Black children need present Fathers and Mothers. Education is going downhill and has been for years and it is not solely because of integration. There are a lot of Black teachers who do not want to teach Black students as well. Even coaches, more so because of the lack of parenting and lack of support. Kids are truly something else. Cursing out teachers, each other, hitting, threatening, smoking weed at school, having sex at school…I mean, kids and schools are not the way some people think and or believe. I am not disagreeing with you, nor attacking you. I’m just saying a whole lot has changed, especially with Black families, & the Black community and not in a good way, this did not just happen.

(i.e., >95% african american students, class of 2000/2001 or greater) Not to dismiss anyone’s opinion on the matter but I would like to hear from people whose experience is within this day and time. I went to an ALL black high school in Cleveland, OH after spending K-8 in private/suburban schools in North Carolina. There are substantial differences in the way children are instructed which lead to the classroom environment as shown in the video. While the children may seem disorderly and disrespectful to some, I see it a different way. I would love to know if others may have had my same experience.

I went to a very small high school that was pretty much 50/50. I got paddled my junior and senior year of high school, so my high school experience was much different than most.

LMBO. Nope I recently joined the 30s club, and I went to a public school. Our parents didn’t mind corporal punishment. Those who didn’t want their children to be paddled could opt out, but I’d take a paddling over 3 days of detention any day.

I’ve been on this blog since 05 and have come to know some on personal basis. They are doing a amazing job with their children; married and single. They are serious scholars. None of them I know raising rapists, covicts nor are they disrespteful.

One done tried me already. A physical therapist asked me to medicate a patient before she go to therapy. So I went in the room to give the pill. not understand it. But after that first week I saw why. The teachers,
facilities, supplies, everything is lacking and the kids KNOW it! In my
four years of high school I never took one book home… why? Because
we had 10 books per class and all were 10 years dated. No science lab,
No library, One Gym for 2,000 students that had a leaky roof. locker
room plumbing did not work so we had to shower at home. 50% of my
math/science teachers were from india and I could NOT understand them.
No calculus class, no foreign language. Lunch was at 2 pm, at the end
of the day because the cafeteria could only 500 students and no one
could get back to class. 3 working bathrooms with 2 stalls in each for
the entire female population. I could go on but I think you get my
drift. Now, as an adult try to sit through 8 hours of someone talking
AT you while you’re sharing a book with 3-4 other students, and you
cannot understand the teacher because her dialect is too strong. Couple
that with the fact there were no after school programs and most parents
were not available they worked jobs that did not bring them home till
10pm. How can CHILDREN work under this type of pressure? Believe me,
black students want to learn. The system just does not want to teach
us. Please everyone, shed some light on the issues in inner city
schools because while most people understand that they are struggling,
none of them know to what extent. What I saw in that video are students
doing the same thing I described and drifting off because they can’t
learn anything.

They told me the gun didn’t have bullets in it so once I heard that nonsense, I was done for real. Can’t come to my house. And I no longer visit theirs.

Thanks! Just read it. Black children do what to leanr but some schools just dont supply them with the tools or resources. That is why my parents sent me to an a predominantly white school. Our bus stop was at the all black school. There was a huge difference. Grateful for the experience but i wish I had went to an all black highschool and HBCU. Nothing like being around your own people. However, my aurroundings prepared for a lot of things I faced in the real world. I was able to adapt to my surroundings. Always wearing a mask so to speak. Not anymore though.

I just turned 30 in September. Yep, they still paddle in my hometown. I think it benefited me and my classmates. For the most part, we got to choose if we were paddled or not. Well, the girls got to choose. Most of the time the boys didn’t have a choice (black men were on the administration, so I won’t say that the boys were targeted due to race). It was better for me to be able to get to my after school duties on time rather than sitting in a freezing classroom for 45 minutes.

While they don’t teach about stock investing in the classroom per se, my white school had simulated stock market programs we used for a year long project and then got to visit an actual investment bank and learn about different things – in the 7th grade. I went on a trip that was known as the annual 8th grade trip where we flew from California to Boston and visited all these historical sites from the Salem witch trials then traveled on to D.C where we visited the White House among other places then to NYC where we saw “Le Mis” on Broadway among other things, then on to Philly to see Liberty Bell. This was all in one trip. Mind you that was a public school in the same district as the inner city school I graduated from. The high school there offered Mandarin, Tagalog, Chinese, Korean, etc.. while the inner city school had Spanish and French only.

They will never tell us the truth not only did Columbus not discover America the people that were discribed where copper colored not the Indians you think but melanated people right here in America. Yes we do. However the best teacher in high school for me that changed my life was white. He saw my potential despite my low self esteem and alcoholic abusive illiterate environment. Maybe we need more great teachers who have the skills to inspire.
