A former Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputy is being held in jail without bond on allegations he committing unlawful sex acts with a 13-year-old boy.
Michael Lomax, a former jailer for the Gwinnett sheriff’s office, resigned following his Nov. 2 arrest on a charge of aggravated child molestation.
Lomax met the child online via Grindr, a gay app that alerts men to the presence of other men looking for quick sex in their immediate vicinity.
The boy’s mother found the app on her child’s smartphone and notified Lilburn police in December 2015.
Lomax admitted picking up the boy in October 2015 and taking him to an apartment where they engaged in oral sodomy.
At a hearing in the same building where he once worked, the short inmate sat wide-eyed in a green county issued jumpsuit. His attorney, Teri Thompson, asked a judge to drop the charges because Lomax didn’t know the boy was only 13.
She argued that the alleged victim was the only witness and his version of the events could not be verified.
Magistrate Judge Bob Mitchum ordered Lomax bound over to Superior Court. A bond for Lomax was not considered, according to the AJC.com.
Lomax has remained in jail since his arrest.
