James Packer was so smitten with pop singer Mariah Carey that he ordered his lawyers to rush a prenup so he could marry her in March.
Carey and the 49-year-old Australian billionaire met in Aspen, Colorado at a ski resort in late 2014. Carey was vacationing there with her then-husband Nick Cannon.
“We hit it off immediately,” she said, referring to Packer.
Cannon, 36, filed for divorce in December 2014, citing irreconcilable differences.
Within months Carey and Packer were engaged. Mariah flashed her $10 million engagement rock in everyone’s faces. Poor Packer believed he was in love.
In the meantime, Packer’s business associates — who weren’t charmed by Carey — tried to warn him to slow his roll.
Packer demanded his legal team rush a prenup so he could marry Mariah on March 1st.
The wedding date was important because Mariah had already signed a reality TV show contract to flaunt her latest catch on national TV.
“The people who work for me do as I say or f–k off. I want to get married on March 1st,” Packer warned his lawyers, when they told him the prenup would not be signed in time for the wedding.
Packer’s legal team were alarmed by the prenup drafted by Carey’s lawyers.
Apparently Carey’s prenup had GOLD DIGGER written all over it.
Carey’s lawyers asked for a laughable sum of $50 million in case they broke up.
To move things along quicker, Carey reportedly withheld sex from her horny beau until they said their “I do’s”.
Also hampering the wedding date was the fact that Nick Cannon refused to sign the divorce papers.
So Carey and Packer agreed to a “commitment ceremony” as opposed to an actual wedding, according to the NY Daily News.
Eventually, Packer dumped Carey over the summer. Carey is now demanding an “inconvenience fee” of $50 million because she moved to California so Packer could be near his children from a previous relationship.
