R&B legend Lauryn Hill is a first time grandmother at 41.
Hill’s 19-year-old son, Zion, apparently sired a son with a girlfriend. The newborn’s name is Zephaniah Nesta.
Zion is the son of Hill and her former partner, 44-year-old Rohan Marley, pictured below with Hill and Zion at his graduation. Rohan is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley, who died of cancer in 1981.
“JAH BLESSINGS,” Rohan wrote alongside a picture of himself holding the infant. “WE GIVE THANKS FOR LIFE. Welcome to Earth Little ZEPHANIAH NESTA.”
Rohan also posted a photo of his son, Zion, holding the newborn. He shared a Bible verse from Zephaniah 3:16, which is reportedly the inspiration for the baby’s name.
“In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack,” Rohan wrote.
Lauryn and Rohan, who never married, have five other children together; rising fashion star Selah, younger sister Sarah, and John and Joshua. Lauryn has another son called Micah. She has never revealed the child’s father. Some speculate the father is musician Wyclef Jean.
Zion’s birth inspired the song “To Zion” from Hill’s only album, The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, which won Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best R&B Album in 1999.
