Chance the Rapper

Chance the Rapper has done what President Obama didn’t do in 8 years. The Grammy-winning rapper donated a hefty $1 million to schools in his native Chicago.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama praised the 23-year-old rap mogul for his generous donation.

In addition to his $1 million pledge, Chance also revealed he will be donating additional $10,000 checks to select schools in the Chicago area for every $100,000 raised on the CPS Social Works crowdsourcing website he set up as part of his new initiative.

The “No Problem” hitmaker announced the generous donation on Monday, where he denounced the war of words between Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel over how to fill the school system’s $215 million budget.

In his press conference, Chance said, “Our kids should not be held hostage because of political positioning.”

He added that the finger pointing between Emanuel and Rauner “was (expletive) embarrassing”.

Michelle Obama took note of Chance’s hard work and dedication to the children of Chicago and publicly applauded him for his efforts in a post on Twitter.

“Thanks (Chance The Rapper) for giving back to the Chicago community, which gave us so much,” she wrote. “You are an example of the power of arts education.”

The father-of-one, whose real name is Chancelor Bennett, did not publicly respond to Mrs. Obama’s compliment. But he proudly reposted a news article about Obama’s tweet on his social media page.

Good for him. And shame on Mr. Obama for not doing more for his wife’s native city.
