Some people can’t take a joke. Social media was in an uproar early Wednesday over a joke told by ex-NBA player Amar’e Stoudemire.
The 34-year-old, 6′ 11″ center currently plays for the Hapoel Jerusalem professional basketball club in Israel.
Stoudemire was being interviewed by Israeli website Walla Sport, when he made the comments that got him in hot water.
When asked if he had a problem with an openly gay teammate, Stoudemire laughed and said, “I’m going to shower across the street, make sure my change of clothes are around the corner. And I’m going to drive — take a different route to the gym.”
When asked by the reporter if he was joking, Stoudemire said there is a kernel of truth in every joke.
Clearly he was joking. It’s amazing how the left demands tolerance from others but they criticize anyone with a dissenting opinion.
Following the uproar across the pond in the U.S., Stoudemire was forced to apologize.
“I want to apologize for my offensive comments against the LGBT community,” Stoudemire said in a statement Wednesday. “These remarks were taken from a larger interview where a reporter was asking me hypothetical questions, and all my answers had a comedic undertone.”
He continued: “The answers I gave were meant to be taken as jokes and I am deeply sorry for offending anyone.”
