Ciara, Amber Rose, and Sean Combs are among 100 celebrities and social media “influencers” who received FTC warning letters about disclosing paid endorsements on social media. The FTC is cracking down on A to Z-list celebrities who hawk products on social media without disclosing the posts are paid endorsements.
In March, the Federal Trade Commission sent nearly 100 letters to stars, brands, and social media influencers (such as NBA vet Allen Iverson) warning them to disclose payments they received in exchange for endorsing products.
The FTC reminded the celebrities that simply saying “thanks” or posting the hashtag #sp for sponsored post was not enough to inform their followers that they were paid for the post.
