A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of singer Rihanna’s cousin over the Christmas holiday.
Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne, 21, was shot and killed while walking near his home in Saint Michael in Barbados on December 26.
According to Barbados Today, Shawayne Dashawn Williams, 23, has been charged with the killing. Williams appeared before Magistrate Douglas Frederick in the District ‘A’ Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Jan. 3, and was remanded to prison. His next court hearing is scheduled for January 31.
Rihanna revealed the sad news on her Instagram account on Dec. 27. She called for the end of gun violence by sharing pictures of herself with her cousin.
“RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man!,” the 29-year-old singer wrote on Instagram.com.
The singer was criticized for glorifying violence with at least 2 gun tattoos on her body. But she told Elle magazine in an interview that she considers the gun to be a symbol of strength.
