Just in case you missed the message that Oprah Winfrey is not running for president in 2020, she repeated herself in the March 2018 issue of In Style magazine. The 63-year-old billionaire confirmed that she has no desire whatsoever to oust President Donald Trump from the White House — even though many think she has the best chance.
“It’s not something that interests me,” she said. “I don’t have the DNA for it.”
Oprah admitted she did speak to best friend and confidante Gayle King about the possibility of running in 2020. But in the end, they both agreed that a presidential campaign and all that it entails is not for her.
“Gayle – who knows me as well as I know myself practically — has been calling me regularly and texting me things, like a woman in the airport saying, ‘When’s Oprah going to run?'” she explained. “So, Gayle sends me these things, and then she’ll go, ‘I know, I know, I know! It wouldn’t be good for you – it would be good for everyone else.'”
The public clamor for Oprah to run caught the attention of Trump, who invited the challenge.
“Oprah will be a lot of fun,” Trump, 71, recently said, noting that he appeared on one of the final episodes of The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011.
During her emotional Golden Globes speech, Oprah made a veiled reference to Trump’s sex scandals.
“I value the press more than ever before as we try to navigate these complicated times,” she said. “Which brings me to this: what I know for sure, is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have, and I’m especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories.”
