Don Lemon

The older sister of CNN anchor Don Lemon drowned after she fell into a pond while fishing on Wednesday afternoon.

L'Tanya 'Leisa' Lemon Grimes, 58, drowned in a pond in Denham Springs, just outside of Baton Rouge.

Police were called to the scene in response to a report that a woman fell into a pond. Grimes was apparently fishing alone.

Police do not suspect foul play.

Lemon, 51, who is based in New York City, will not host his show 'CNN Tonight' on Thursday after being informed of his sister's death.

"Thanks everyone for your words of sympathy," Lemon tweeted on Thursday. "Please keep my family in your prayers. Leisa was my oldest sister & partner in crime growing up. Always had my back. #RIPbigSis."

The siblings are pictured above with their mother Katherine (left).

Wow! So sorry to hear...I was wondering why he wasn't on his show all week especially after the SOTU.

Condolences and Prayers...couldn't imagine losing my sister...

  • klwbaby

    RIP L' Tanya....

  • JRock

    Wow. So sad.

    Rest in heaven, sis.

  • Tennessean

    please elaborate...

  • Tennessean

I am not sure which one is the sister.

  • Tennessean

    Yeah, nevermind...

  • Sugar Mama

    This is so sad! RIP

  • Wreckognize Game

I saw this on the news here but didnt know it was his sister. I didnt know he had family in Louisiana. No wonder he turns up so hard in NOLA for the New Year.

    RIP to L'Tanya.

  • Raquelle Dellaghetto

Ppl who can't swim, shouldn't be near water..

  • ?Patty Kakes?

    Aww poor thing ?

  • dontgetblocked

I'm sorry his sister passed away. However the Bible tells us to be careful how we walk through this world. We don't only pay for our sins but so will our loved ones. Don has a disgustingly cruel way about him. I'll leave it at that.

  • SandraRose

The sister is on the right.

  • pecancandy

Yeah, I think he is from around BR.

  • stav

Simply put, this was an accident. .Nothing more! Condolences

  • Malcom Flex

RIP learn to swim my black peoples!!!

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

I'm so glad some of you are not God. Geez. RIP Very sad ACCIDENT.

  • Ryan

"Don has a disgustingly cruel way about him."

Actually, that applies to you. And throw classless into the description. Nobody in this world is perfect and they definitely don't deserve to have family members die because they dared to have and express opinions.

    R.I.P. Lady.

  • MsPam

The Bible does say that but do you have to throw salt into the wound?!

  • shun king

    very true

  • missarewa

just horrible. may her soul Rest in Peace

  • MookieFly

Y'all gotta remember she was pond fishing, where there is all of kelp and seaweed to get tangled in if you fall in. And she was 58? Condolences got out to Don and his family.

  • shun king

    she was quoting a attn

  • E-VannaRootsAllEvil

Ignore these ppl these are crazy!!! Don’t respond to the devil

  • Ryan

  • E-VannaRootsAllEvil

They come here looking for attention bc they ain’t getting none no where else. They actually hate themselves if u can’t tell

  • Ryan

There's a LOT of anger there. Almost feel sorry for them. ALMOST.

  • Roderick2011

Maybe people like you and her should spend more time listening and less time quoting.

  • NicoleZee

Excuse me but how can someone drown in a pond??? Ponds aren't that deep I thought, maybe I'm wrong. I just thought that ponds, lakes, and rivers were not that deep so how is it easy to drown in them??? Now the ocean, hell yeah, it goes very deep to where humans cannot even survive in the pitch black lowest and deepest part.

  • NicoleZee

That's exactly why I don't go on cruises. I like sailing for a few short hours though, but getting on a huge boat for several days and not being able to swim??? No bueno! Not until I finish those swimming lessons!

  • Readytochokemothernatureout

My heart goes out to him and his family. ?

  • NicoleZee

So sorry for Don and his family. I hope she rests in peace. I would love for an expert to explain how someone can drown in a pond that's not even deep. I'm confused by that, not trying to be rude, but I don't understand how you can drown as an adult in a pond unless you become incapacitated in some way. Strange.

  • shun king

wow people make a comment so that mean they hate themselves...smh

  • shun king

you must look up to Don lemon lol

  • Roderick2011

Unlike you I have a life and don't spend my time in sitting in my rocking chair telling people to get off my lawn.

  • Elevated Soul

I understand exactly what you mean....Don has a very cruel streak. He throws people off the set who disagrees with him. He's part of the hate fest....

Karma comes for you or it come for people you're close to.Many on this site are very cruel just like he is....I've seen comments today and on other occasions where they wish harm to come for President Trump and his family but now these bishes are trying to act all self righteous, like hypocrites do.

  • dontgetblocked

Thank you. You try to warn people. Sometimes it takes a tragedy for them to hear.

  • Raquelle Dellaghetto

Or wear a life jacket. Shi t, I've been swimming since I was 4 years old, but I still know my limits. Some ppl want to act brave with it and end up paying the price with their life.

  • dontgetblocked

Do you ever just shut up??

  • dontgetblocked

Once again...when you do evil...evil comes back to you and your loved ones.

  • dontgetblocked

Maybe...maybe not. Middle aged woman lived in NO her whole life. Out fishing? By herself? In a pond...not an ocean? Doesn't know how to swim? Or maybe she did??

  • dontgetblocked

Exactly. But let them tell it...they're one step from heaven and we're going to Hell!

  • dontgetblocked

My question exactly. She'd lived in this environment her whole life. What happened?

  • shun king

she might have had a stroke or something

  • dontgetblocked

    That makes sense.

  • Phillybruh

It should be visiting you shortly then.

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

And that swamp water is no punk. Quick sand, sink holes, and all kinds of unexpected things.

  • hottlanta

Wow 58 and fishing love it. Mom looks good as well. She died doing what she loves to do. Rest in Peace sister.

  • hottlanta

I love the beach and I don't swim. When I walk on the beach and the tide comes and touch my toes I go further back because water is tricky.

  • Oya Shango

You may suffer some blow-back but you don't pay for the karma/sins of siblings. They did not birth you. You pay for the sins of your "fathers" meaning "parents." I have never cared for Lemon nor do I watch CNN. But if he is cruel, he will pay for his own sins since he has no biological children.

  • NicoleZee

Very true. Sometimes it depends on the situation. When I went sailing overseas, they didn't require us to wear life vests, but both instructors were certified lifeguards and sailors/swimmers or whatever the certification is that they need. So if someone had fallen overboard, at least there was someone on board who could save them! I still don't get how someone drowns in a pond though. Strange.

  • Alicia.Ashe

    My condolences

  • Vonn

Ppl drown in water that isn't deep often. A lot of folks could have been saved from drowning by simply standing up in the water, but fear & panic sets in.

  • gail jones

  • NicoleZee

She was drunk when she drowned???

  • Lady_Elle

    So sorry to hear this.
My condolences to the family and other loved ones.
    So sad...

  • R in NYC

Bwahahaha....I love it. Holy rollers suck.

  • Renee26

  • Renee26

They can be deep as they are dug, the center tends to be deeper. She could have passed out... hurt herself in the fall and couldn't get up....panicked and went further many things

  • Phillybruh

They aren't holy rollers they are miserable people who have tried and failed at life.

  • BeUtFullSoul

    My condolences.

  • DaughterOfaQueen

Damn that's messed up. My condolences to the family, I love me some Don especially on New Year's Eve!

  • They’re ALL false God’s fools

Wow sorry to hear about that it's terrible. All parents should have their kids take swimming lessons at a local pool. It's easier to learn how when they're kids.

  • Ni Ni

She was a brave lady to be fishing alone. My condolences to the family.

  • Elle

Yeah, we always associate ponds as being small and shallow for ducks, but people drown all the time in lakes and rivers. They are much deeper the farther you go out.

  • Yoni7

Rivers run very deep. Look at the Mississippi and Ohio RIVERS. Ponds can be deep as well. Think of a golf course that the balls land in. And coupled with not knowing how to swim and fear, someone can easily drown.

  • E-VannaRootsAllEvil

    Don’t bother

  • E-VannaRootsAllEvil

Amen to that the devil knew scripture

  • SpillyNillie

We will ALL have our final hour. No one knows the time, place, or manner. For we live to die. Your day will surely come. We'll just pray that someone shows you a wee bit more sympathy than you showed the Lemon's.

  • vicci

Beware of the hills have eyes type. Furthermore you have take offense the moment you mention God. Its a spirit of disagreement on them.

  • Medina Johnson

    so sad. RIP

  • Kemi

Condolences to her family.. RIP ma’am

  • Ghost

OLD school...probably ben doing it for can be very peaceful and relaxing. This time it just didn't work out so well..RIP

  • Trace da Ace

damn, that is so sad!!! RIP

  • NicoleZee

Oh, I didn't realize that. I just figured a pond would be a couple of feet of water, if that. So I was thinking a taller, bigger adult would know how to get themselves out if they slipped in.

  • NicoleZee

I didn't think about that. I wonder how deep a pond or river can be, probably not as deep as the ocean but deep enough I guess. Well, I guess anyone can drown then. I've heard of adults drowning in the bathtub if they fall asleep or pass out, so now it ll makes sense when I think about it.

  • A D N

I was wondering where he was. Sad story.

  • Tay Gee

Do you really feel like that was an appropriate thing to say? Whether that is your belief or not, it was cruel to say in this moment and you should ask for forgiveness for putting that out into the atmosphere for others to read.

If you believe in the Bible, you also believe that as a follower of God you need to help bring people to his kingdom, by your words you may have discouraged many. Think about you message next time, because you fell short here.

  • NicoleZee

Yeah, I thought about all the scenarios. It's probably wise to not go near water alone unless you can swim. So if someone wants to go boating, fishing, sailing, whatever, they should go with someone else who can swim in case they need saving! I wonder why she was fishing alone, knowing she couldn't swim??? I don't fish, but if I get on a boat, I make sure there is someone else on it that can swim. I just wonder why she even got in the water. When I see people fishing at this park close to where I live, they sit in a chair on the grass or they stand up on the grass, so there would no need to get in the water.

  • MookieFly

It depends on the depth. Some are only a couple of feet, while some ponds can be 8ft and above. Maybe she was on a boat too

  • 5000BlinK

Keep your head up Don... RIH

  • KLo

Its a shame some of us don't know how to swim. sad

  • Blunted25

Everybody dies. Christians and heathens. Saved, unsaved, evil and good. When our number is called then our time is up. I hate when people use the Bible as justification for why certain things happen to certain people. Why do the good die young? Just stop.

  • NicoleZee

8 feet?! Wow, I didn't know that. I figured most ponds were only a foot or 2 of water, maybe 3 but not 8! I guess when it's your time to go, it just is. But I'm thinking her death could have been prevented had she been wearing a life vest or had someone who could swim with her. So very sad.

  • interestingconcept1

Please learn to swim, or at least float on your back, which I find easier to teach. I almost drown trying to save a woman, beating on me, panicking, it's just water, calm the fk down! and stop getting in water, around water, cruising on water if you can't swim.

  • NicoleZee

I plan to learn again. I took lessons in childhood, but didn't finish. It was very uncomfortable being under water, plus the chlorine from the pool broke my hair off. I'm accident prone, so I don't how I would do trying to swim. Sailing and driving are not my strong suit either, but I learned. Sailing was really fun, but I suck at steering a boat! I told my mom I want to scuba dive with sharks one day, she told me that I need to be committed to a mental hospital! LOL!

  • NicoleZee

I'm trying hard to understand why someone who can't swim would be near or in a pond alone. Maybe she thought like I did and didn't think the pond would be deep enough to drown in. If you want to go near or in the water and can't swim, just have someone with you that can. I guess people don't think logically and they don't think certain things will happen to them. It's horrible when someone dies unexpectedly and they had no clue or warning that their time is up. Very sad.

  • interestingconcept1

This is how I almost drown. I was out on the lake back home fishing with my mom and uncle. This lady was fishing in a boat alone was trying to untangle her line and fell in. Didnt have on a life jacket and couldn't swim at ALL. My mom was so mad at me for going to help her.

  • NicoleZee

Wow, you have a huge heart for trying to help a stranger when you could have died yourself. Of course your mom would be mad! Why didn't someone just call 911??? I can't say I would do the same thing and jump in after someone, but I can't swim. But if my son fell in, then I would definitely risk it all to save him! Anytime he sees water, he tries to jump in! SMH!

  • n1kk1a

    Why was she fishing alone?

  • Waya Hedia

Aren't you supposed to use a pole ?

  • interestingconcept1

This was back when only a few had cell phones. Yeah, my mom was pissed.

  • Elle

Yep, that's the thing. No one ever knows how deep they are, 4ft, 9 ft depending on the area you're in. My friend's son was with a church youth group at a quarry (lake) here celebrating end of freshman year with tons of other teenagers. The place is popular and open for swimming. They all jumped in and thought he was playing around when he never came back up. And he was a GREAT swimmer. Divers had to find and pull his body to shore. To this day, no one knows how in the world he drowned. And the autopsy was "clean."

  • NicoleZee

That is horrible. I wonder why these places don't have security and lifeguards on hand if people are allowed to get near or in the water. Too much like right I guess. I guess most cities don't want to spend the extra money hiring lifeguards for lakes, rivers, and ponds, and even beaches, but it would make more sense and prevent people from drowning. But furthermore, how can someone drown who can swim, WTH??? Goodness, the weirdest things happen at the drop of a hat.

  • Elle

    Yep. Too much like right..

  • Diamond Jubilee

This story sounds a little fishy to me. If she lives in New Orleans and knows that she can't swim and if she been fishing before which is probably many times, she fell into the pond this time?

  • fRAktal Reality

@KLo - Many of us have natural flotation devices in the form of breasts and buttocks. I had difficulty achieving negative buoyancy while training for open water diver certification. I had to insert extra weights into my diving jacket because my buttocks kept floating me back up to the surface.

You may not be able to swim, but you WILL float if you have fat or air pockets within your body.

  • Arrissasso

    The Manchurian candidate lol.

  • Arrissasso

    Pun not intended?

  • Chuck

    Your mom is heartless.. ijs

  • Chuck

You need counseling, because what you said all sound crazy. Sounds like you hate yourself. Give yourself credit for something that you have accomplished in life.

  • interestingconcept1

No she just loves me dearly Sorry if you don't know what's that like. *kanye shrug, lol.

  • Jussjess25

    Awww sad rip
