A Central Michigan University sophomore is still on the run after killing his parents when they arrived to pick him up from school for spring break. The shooting of 2 people on the university campus was breaking news on Friday.
According to The Detroit Free Press, James Eric Davis, Jr., 19, fatally shot his parents in his fourth floor dorm room after they arrived to pick him up.
The Free Press reports police had contact with Davis late Thursday night and they took him to a hospital for a psych evaluation. Davis was released from the hospital Thursday morning, shortly before he killed his parents.
Central Michigan University was on lockdown after the shooting. The lockdown included K-12 schools in the area and many local businesses, including Target, were closed.
“This young man, who obviously is troubled, killed his parents, and that’s very sad,” said Cheryl Hunter, owner of O’Kelly’s Sports Bar and Grille, a student hangout near CMU.
Police and other law enforcement agencies are searching for Davis, who is armed and considered dangerous.
Davis is described as a black male, 5-feet-10 and 135 pounds.
