Mary J. Blige is officially free from her ball and chain husband, Kendu Isaacs. The 47-year-old R&B Diva settled her bitter divorce on Friday, WENN.com reports. Blige reportedly reached a settlement with her estranged husband and former manager, after filing court papers to end their 12-year marriage in July, 2016.
Last summer, Blige was ordered to pay her ex $30,000 a month in temporary spousal support, but Isaacs had asked the judge to bump up his support to $65,000 a month in October, claiming he was “destitute” and unable to find work.
But the judge overseeing the former couple’s case shot down Isaacs’ bid for more cash last year.
Blige, pictured here with ‘Black Panther’ star Daniel Kaluuya, 29, at the 90th Annual Academy Awards, previously offered to personally cover Isaacs’s massive $11 million debt if the judge agreed to end her spousal support payments.
According to The Blast, the former couple was due in court on Monday, but they settled on Friday — two days before Blige attended and performed at the 90th Academy Awards.
Blige didn’t win any awards on Sunday, but she reportedly ended her night at a lavish party thrown by friends JAY-Z and Beyonce at the Chateau Marmont.
“The fam is doing something big for us tonight,” she said before the awards ceremony. “All this love, it’s so beautiful. I feel blessed. I feel really blessed to have people care about me that much. I care about them that much and it just feels really good.”
