The wife of a Gwinnett County bodyguard was charged with his shooting death as he arrived home from work on November 17, 2017. Police say George Young, 43, was ambushed by an assailant who shot him as he arrived home around midnight after working as a bodyguard for a performer at Lenox Mall.
Tia Young and Harvey Timothy Lee, 43 (right), were arrested and booked into the Gwinnett County jail on charges of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault, according to the AJC.
Tia, George’s wife of 22 years, their three sons, her mother and brother all lived in the home on Montauk Hill in Buford.
In November, Tia talked to Channel 2 Action News about what she heard outside the couple’s home on the night of Nov. 17.
“I heard two loud gunshots,” she told Channel 2. “I thought it was gunshots, but I wasn’t sure what it was, whether it was firecrackers. So I ran to my brother’s room. He wasn’t in there.”
Tia said she found her brother downstairs on his laptop. “So I asked him did he hear that noise,” she said. “He said, ‘Yeah. It sounded like two gunshots.’”
“I start panicking, because I didn’t know George was home.”
She said her brother went outside and found George suffering from gunshot wounds. “He ran back upstairs and said I need you to call 9-1-1 ASAP. I said, what is it? Was somebody shot? He said, yes. And I said, who? And he said, George.”
“My heart just sank.”
Tia told 11 Alive News that her husband “was a really good guy. Everybody loved George.”
She said he worked 60-70 hours a week, but he always made time for their sons.
Tia said George was “a great dad. He loved these boys. He lived and breathed for these boys.”
