Jahseh Onfroy

Troubled rapper XXXTentacion was shot and critically wounded in Miami on Monday, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. A video taken by a bystander shows the rapper motionless in a car while a witness checks his pulse.

Update: The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed reports of a shooting in the Deerfield Beach area just before 4 p.m. Monday.

An adult male victim was transported to an area hospital. He is listed in critical condition. An earlier report by gossip tabloid TMZ claimed the rapper had “no pulse”.

Witnesses say the rapper was at a dealership shopping for motorcycles. As he was leaving, a gunman approached his car and shot him.

Jahseh Onfroy

The 20-year-old, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, grew up in Lauderhill, Florida, where he committed a string of home invasions.

Onfroy released his first song “News/Flock” while in juvenile detention for gun possession charges. He turned his life around in 2013 after spending another stint in jail.

But trouble soon found him again. In July 2016, Onfroy was arrested and charged with robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

In October, 2016, Onfroy was arrested on charges of false imprisonment, witness tampering, and aggravated battery of his pregnant girlfriend.

On April 18, 2017, he was released from prison, and he began his national tour 10 days later.

On May 10, 2018, the music streaming service Spotify announced it was dropping songs by Onfroy and other rap artists from its playlists. Spotify had a change of heart following backlash from bold name rappers and bigwigs, including Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony Tiffith who threatened to remove his label’s music from the service.
