Royalty Floyd

A Mississippi woman who stabbed and burned her granddaughter in an oven is in police custody charged with the baby’s murder.

The charred body of Royalty Marie Floyd, 20 months, was found in an oven on Monday. She had been stabbed by a sharp object. An autopsy will determine whether Royalty was dead before she was placed in the oven.

Carolyn Jones, 48, is charged with first-degree murder in Royalty’s death. She is being held on $500,000 bail.

The baby’s mother, Veronica Jones, shared her grief on Facebook.com. “My heart has been ripped from my chest. To my daughter Royalty ‘Mommy will always love you and you will live in our hearts forever.'”

Veronica said her mother’s actions doesn’t reflect the woman she knows.

“I’m being told that my mother stabbed my daughter and baked her in the oven but my mother loved my daughter,” she wrote. “She always treated Royalty like Royalty and everybody that knows us know that.”

Police say the baby was living with Carolyn while Veronica lived elsewhere. Carolyn’s brother found the baby in the oven and called 911 on Monday.

Veronica shared a GofundMe link to collect donations for funeral services.
