Dallas-based rapper Yella Beezy was shot multiple times while driving on the Sam Rayburn Tollway in Texas early Sunday, according to published reports.
Officers found the wounded rapper at 3:30 a.m. along the State Road 121 Bypass, according to Lewisville police.
Beezy, whose real name is Deandre Conway, was driving on the toll road when another car pulled alongside and someone in the car let off more than a dozen rounds from a semi-automatic assault rifle.
Managers for Conway confirmed the rapper was hospitalized in critical condition on Sunday. His condition was upgraded to stable on Monday.
Police have not determined a motive for the shooting and no suspects are in custody.
Beezy is best known for his hit “That’s On Me”. He opened up for Beyonce and JAY-Z during their On the Run 2 Tour stop in Texas.
In a recent interview with VladTV he mentioned his hardscrabble life growing up without a father who was killed when he was 12.
Beezy mentions his dad in “Dawg These Hoes,” in which he raps: “I’m Tony Conway’s son.”
“I appreciate everything I went through because that made me who I am now,” he told Vlad.
