Rihanna showed her support for SJW activist Colin Kaepernick by turning down an offer to perform during halftime at the upcoming Super Bowl game in Atlanta in 2019.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna was the frontrunner for next year’s Super Bowl halftime show. CBS and the NFL reached out to the Bajan singer first, before they contacted rapper Cardi B.
A source tells ET that “after thinking about the offer, Rihanna decided to pass due to the NFL and the situation regarding players kneeling.”
The source continued, “The offer and exposure would have been great for Rihanna as she’s planning a new album and tour but she stuck to what’s right in her eyes.”
Pop singer Pink also declined to perform due to the unemployed quarterback’s ongoing legal issues with the league.
Cardi B is currently in negotiations to perform at halftime alongside pop/rock band Maroon 5.
