R. Kelly and Sony Records has reportedly parted ways in the aftermath of a sex scandal involving adult women who claim the singer abused them and held them hostage in his Atlanta area home and a Chicago recording studio.
Kelly’s partnership with Sony dates back to 2010. The record label decided to drop the 52-year-old crooner after new evidence came to light that proves he knew the late singer Aaliyah was underaged when he married her in 1994.
Aaliyah, who is best known for her hit song “Age Ain’t Nothin’ But a Nunber”, was only 15 when she married Kelly who was 27. Kelly met Aaliyah when she was only 12. She died in a plane crash in The Bahamas in 2001 at age 22.
Kelly began his recording career in 1993 when he was signed to Jive Records.
via VladTV.com — Earlier this week, it was reported that RCA and Sony were putting Kelly’s new music on hold, though public pressure was likely too much for the label to endure, as one demonstration involved a plane flying over the Sony Music offices in Culver City, equipped with a banner that read “RCA/SONY: DROP SEXUAL PREDATOR R. KELLY.”
It should be noted that while neither Kelly or Sony have released an official statement, he has been removed from the official roster list on RCA’s website.
