Singer Maxwell, 45, dropped to one knee for a mock proposal to Tina Knowles-Lawson, 65, who is happily married to veteran actor Richard Lawson, 71.
Maxwell and Mrs. Knowles-Lawson were among the well-heeled stars attending the 2019 National Cares Mentoring Gala in New York City on Monday.
Also attending the National Cares Gala was television personality and news journalist Tamron Hall, 48, who wore a canary yellow dress for the occasion.
