Sean Combs opens up to Essence magazine about life after Kim Porter, the mother of 3 of his 5 biological children.
Porter, 47, passed away in November after contracting double pneumonia while battling the flu.
Combs explained that losing his “soul mate” forced him be a more attentive father to his 5 children and Porter’s firstborn child, Quincy Brown, 27.
Porter is also the mother of 21-year-old Christian and 12-year-old twins D’Lila Star and Jessie James.
Combs, 49, also has a son Justin, 25, with stylist Lisa Hylton, and 12-year-old daughter Chance with Atlanta socialite Sarah Chapman.
Combs said Porter always put the children’s needs above her own.
When Porter came down with the flu, she sent the children over to Combs’s house so they wouldn’t get sick. She died on Nov. 15.
Her death came as a complete shock to Combs. He still hasn’t fully recovered from her untimely passing.
The hip-hop mogul said he went into “mommy mode” after Porter’s death. A role that was unfamiliar to him because Porter always assumed the child rearing duties.
“Before this, I was a part-time father, you know? My family was always first, but there are countless times when I chose work over everything else. But every day I can hear her telling me to go and spend some time with the kids and make sure everybody’s all right, like she would do. I’m just a lot more present, and, most important, now my kids come before anything else in my life.”
The issue hits newsstands on Friday.
