Actor Jason Mitchell has been fired from the 3rd season of Showtime’s The Chi for inappropriate behavior with women. He is pictured left with the show’s creator Lena Waithe.
In addition, Mitchell was reportedly dropped from Netflix’s Desperados due to an incident involving a female co-star.
According to Deadline.com, the up-and-coming actor was also dumped by his manager and agent.
Mitchell, 32, is best known for playing the late rapper Eazy E in the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton.
On The Chi, Mitchell played Brandon Johnson, an ambitious and well-liked young man who operated a food truck business and had plans to open a restaurant.
The details of his inappropriate behavior are scarce. But Variety.com reports he was involved in an off-set incident that led to his dismissal from Desperados.
Several female co-stars on The Chi accused Mitchell of inappropriate behavior, including Tiffany Boone, who played his on-screen girlfriend.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Boone made repeated allegations of sexual harassment against Mitchell and she allegedly felt unsafe on the set of The Chi.
At times her fiancé, actor Marque Richardson (“Dear White People”), came to the set when Boone shot scenes with Mitchell, according to THR.
Boone, 31, eventually asked to be released from her contract to pursue other acting opportunities.
Reportedly the incidents involving other actresses on The Chi were “resolved” following an investigation.
Some viewers of The Chi accused creator and screenwriter Lena Waithe of turning a blind eye to accusations of Mitchell’s inappropriate behavior on the set.
Waithe did not respond to The Hollywood Reporter‘s request for a comment. The 35-year-old openly lesbian Emmy winner has previously protested the prevalence of “heteronormative” gender roles in today’s society.
According to Deadline, Mitchell was investigated in 2016 for body slamming an 18-year-old female on the floor of a Boston hotel room.
The Chi was picked up for a 3rd season, but Fox 21 TV opted not to renew Mitchell’s option for the new season.
