Cardi B will not be among the well-heeled stars gracing the red carpet at tonight’s Met Gala in New York City. The official invites went out a month ago, but Cardi’s invitation was revoked, according to well placed sources.
The theme for this year’s MET Gala is “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme, which Vogue magazine described as “artifice and style and exaggeration.”
According to a source, Anna Wintour, Vogue magazine’s editor-for-life, cancelled Cardi B ascending the steps this year after several headline-grabbing gaffes by the rapper. Cardi admitted to drugging and robbing her male clients when she earned rent money working the pole in strip clubs.
And who can forget The Bronx rapper throwing a shoe at rival rapper Nicki Mina’s head at another fashion event in NYC?
But sources say Anna Wintour was “horrified” after she saw a video of the “Bodak Yellow” rapper butt naked while backstage at the 2019 Billboard Awards last week.
If she would disrespect the Billboard awards, there is no guarantee that she wouldn’t do the same at the Met Gala. In fact, that’s the reason why Cardi’s camp scrubbed the disgraceful video from all social media platforms – before Anna saw it. But by then it was too late.
Cardi’s poor impulse-control, mental problems, and her obvious need to be medicated convinced Vogue staff that she was not the right fit for the event.
Anna and her staff reportedly held a closed-door meeting where they discussed Cardi’s headline-grabbing antics, among other subjects. They also discussed the post-Met Gala fight involving Cardi’s husband, mumble rapper Offset and an autograph seeker who is currently suing the rapper for damages.
But the final straw was that nude video from the Billboard Awards.
“Can you imagine [Cardi] posting a nude video from the Met?” said the source, who added that any outburst by Cardi before or after the Met Gala would instantly overshadow Anna’s hard work in putting the event together.
The Met Gala is no longer the hottest ticket in town as it was before Anna opened the gates to less-than-desirables such as Kim Kardashian and her family.
As a result, A-list stars like Rihanna and Gwyneth Paltrow are skipping this year’s event.
Cardi’s presence at last year’s MET is one of the reasons why signer Rihanna and others are staying home this year.
The Evening Standard newspaper reported that Rihanna was not confirmed to attend this year.
Rihanna’s fans have been in meltdown over her absence from this year’s MET.
One Rihanna fan tweeted, “Listen, no offence [sic] to your faves, but if Rihanna isn’t going to the Met Gala, then what’s the point? Cancel it until next year.”
