Jada Pinkett Smith showed off her Genie outfit at the Hollywood premiere of Disney’s Aladdin on May 21, 2019 in Hollywood. Aladdin is a live-action movie about a kindhearted street urchin (Mena Massoud) and a power-hungry Grand Vizier who battle for control of a magic lamp that has the power to make their wishes come true. Will Smith plays the Genie in the magic lamp.

Director Guy Ritchie (back row 4th from left) chose Will Smith to play the Genie because he believed Smith would do as good a job as the late comedic actor Robin Williams. But Will’s casting as the blue Genie was not well-received by Aladdin fans who say he’s not the right fit for the role.

The set was hit with another scandal after it was reported that the white extras were wearing brown make-up in order to “blend in” with the ethnic stars, which caused an uproar. Aladdin also stars Naomi Scott (as Jasmine) and Marwan Kenzari (as Jafar).
