Chicago rapper Lil Durk plans to turn himself in later Thursday in connection with a shooting outside an iconic Atlanta landmark during Super Bowl weekend.

Lil Durk’s lawyer confirmed the rapper will turn himself in to Atlanta police on Thursday afternoon.
A man was shot multiple times outside The Varsity restaurant near downtown Atlanta at around 5:45 a.m. on Feb. 5. The shooting shut down a busy stretch of road for several hours in Midtown Atlanta, Channel 2 Action News reports.
The unidentified 23-year-old man was transported to Atlanta Medical Center in serious condition. It is unclear if he survived his injuries.
Lil Durk’s attorney said he didn’t know what charges his client will face. Durk is a well-known gang-affiliated rapper in Chicago.
Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Derrick Banks, was arrested in November 2014 on weapons charges after Chicago police raided a home in the Orland Park area and found handguns.
He was released on bond after a brief stint in jail. “Nine people were present” in the home, his lawyer Sam Adam Jr. said. “Those guns could have been theirs.”
However, Durk told police he kept the guns for protection. “I got those pipes (guns) ’cause (expletive) always be tryin’ to take my bands (money),” he said, according to a police report.
The father-of-three got his start as a YouTube and Myspace rapper at age 15. His legal problems began when he dropped out of high school and joined the Black Disciples, a rival gang of the Gangster Disciples in Chicago.
In October 2011, he was hit with gun charges, including possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number.
He later pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon, and was sentenced to three months in jail. In 2013 Lil Durk was arrested again with a loaded .50 caliber handgun in Englewood.
His rap career took off after he released his third mixtape, Life Ain’t No Joke. He signed a joint venture with his Only the Family (OTF collective) and Def Jam Recordings.
Durk was involved in a feud with rival rappers Chief Keef and Gangster Disciple Joseph “Lil Jojo” Coleman. Jojo was shot to death on Sept. 5, 2012.
Lil Durk is best known outside of Chicago as the “boyfriend” of lesbian rapper and “My Beyoncé” collaborator Dej Loaf.
“I guess the new thing now is to fake it until you make it. Fake what you got. Fake who you in love with,” said Angeleah Speights, aka Aye Redd, who was Dej Loaf’s rumored girlfriend at the time.
