Convicted murderer Cyntoia Brown is a free woman. She was released from prison today, Aug. 7. after Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam commuted her life sentence in January. Brown was a 16-year-old runaway when she fatally shot real estate agent John Allen, 43, in the back of the head while he slept in 2002. She was sentenced to life in prison in 2004.

Brown, 32, was released from the Tennessee Prison for Women after serving 15 years of her life sentence.

Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian-West and Rihanna rallied support for Brown on social media.

Brown was often referred to as a "sex trafficking victim", even though she recruited friends to return to her victim's home to rob him after shooting him in the head.

Brown, who was a runaway and drug addict, claimed she was forced into prostitute by an older boyfriend, but he was later cleared by investigators.

Brown won't leave prison empty handed. Last month, Netflix announced it had acquired the rights to her story, which means she will receive a nice check from the streaming giant.

Brown will remain on parole for 15 years. She will be sent back to prison if she violates the terms of her parole.

  • Dr. P

I hope she publicly shows her gratitude to Kim Whoredashian who will no doubt take FULL credit for her being released. #rollseyes

  • pure_rachet

Auntie always changing peoples names up in here

  • Ms.Devereaux

Hopefully she will go and live a quite and productive life and hopefully she does not have any dealings with anyone from her past they are watching and waiting to prove that she is a criminal

  • Nonya Bizness

    Crime pays.

  • Yardgirl

I hope she takes advantage of this second chance and make something of herself.

  • Dowoop

Meh...Considering her age at the time, this is fair. 15 years can do wonders for some people and im sure having a chance to detox from the drugs and get her life together and mature has been good for her. Plus, she is on parole for 15 years so if she hasnt gotten it together back to jail she goes.

  • Dowoop

If you steal the right things without getting caught of course it does.

  • Dowoop

She is a criminal though. She just needs to show that she is now a rehabilitated criminal.

  • RespectSelf

I hope everything works out for her. I hear it can be tough for folks after being locked up for so long. She basically grew up behind bars. So hopefully she takes full advantage of this opportunity.

  • MsPam

    New post, good morning!

  • Mimi_131

She should have never been locked up and she should be provided restitution.

  • CardiB’sAbs

    15 years for taking a life...naw!

  • Li-Wright

WHAT is the Netflix deal? Who's producing - Kim? I betcha.

Brown, who was a runaway and drug addict, claimed she was forced into
prostitute by an older boyfriend, but he was later cleared by

The boyfriend should have gotten the same time.

  • GAPeach

Sandra, you need to correct her name in the title.

  • Li-Wright

Nope, she should have served SOME time, but a lifetime was too harsh.

  • ATL White Guy

I think the boyfriend was ultimately killed by someone else, unrelated to this case.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

It'll be interesting to see what kind of life she lives on the outside. A lot of felons have a hard time finding employment when they get out of prison. But she's a good looking woman, and semi-famous, so I'm sure somebody will take a chance and hire her.

  • Kimocha

Well I wish her the best in her new life and hope she don't f'ck it up.

  • Tiffany W

since no one else will say it, she should be doing LIFE! People get raped and trafficked everyday and don't go back to rob and kill perpetrators.

  • tintin

she gone make a lot of mula.

she'll have an interview with every network.

  • WutizstillHERE!

The only thing I fear is the fact that she spent her teen years in the street and then prison.. so her life is formed from sorrow and hard knocks. She will need serious rehabilitation to gain control of her life outside the confines of prison..I hope she does well.

  • Coy little wink me boo I too have a story to tell ?

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

Maybe. But that Netflix /TV money is only going to last so long though. She'll still need to find a job at some point, and I'm not sure what kind of job skills she has after spending 15 yrs in prison.

  • WhoKnew

  • WhoKnew

    So true.

  • WhoKnew

She should get her Netflix check, crawl into an unidentified hole somewhere in the world, rehab her life through counseling and employment training and live quietly and un-assumedly for the rest of her life.

  • Toni Toni Toni

  • Toni Toni Toni

They may have broken her off properly though. Maybe a couple of Million.. Hopefully...

  • MrsSpice1

Excuse me bish!!!!?!? That mf had that bs coming with his old CREEPY using diabolical predator azz!!! He deserved it i cant fkn stand sick azz men like that who prey on young vulnerable or troubled women and girls. I cant fkn believe u a woman saying that bs!!

  • Toni Toni Toni

TF!! Let some old ass 43 yo old man do that shyt to do her daughter. I bet she be ready to take his life..

  • Ghetto Real Name

Im so happy for you love. Many blessings and this Netflix money will give you an awesome start. You have furthered your education while in and I feel like you have a great future ahead of you. godspeed.

  • Gowns. Beautiful Gowns

she got her associates in jail, i hope she uses it right

I agree with you. I was done when she wore pigtails to court to look like a teenager when she was 30+ years old. It was an obvious attempt to play into the whole "innocent youth locked up" thing and extremely manipulative. I think she knew what she was doing when she killed that man, and is a danger to society.

  • Tiffany W

You're a child. No matter your age. You disrespected me. Conversation over.

  • Tiffany W

She would have left when she noticed an out (as this girl did) and never returned (as this girl should have done). You don't return to danger and abuse. You LEAVE & get help if that's what you truly want.

  • Toni Toni Toni

All of that, Plus starting out with a nice lil Checky Check from Netflix doesn't hurt. I think she will do fine as long as she has the right people around her.

  • Toni Toni Toni

I'm happy that she has been released and gets a second chance at life.

As long as she keeps people with the right energy around her and stays focused on being the best that she can be and manage her money properly she should be ok. She's going to have to watch out for all the leach on kinda people though.

  • Stan4NoOne

I hope she doesn't kill anyone else and advocates for troubled youth.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

I don't know why people don't think 15 years is a fair punishment. It's not like she was 26 years old at the time... she was 16. The mind of a teenager isn't fully formed and mature (even less so if the person has been traumatized by sex trafficking). So I'm glad the justice system recognizes that, and doesn't treat a teen killer they same way they would somebody who's an adult.

  • Stan4NoOne

I too share this opinion. But... what's meant to be is meant to be.

  • Stan4NoOne

She was not 30 in those pigtails. Get your facts straight, at the very least.

  • SayWhatNow?

A 43 year old professional, grown, rusty ass man had no business sleeping with this child. She should have just cut his penis off and let him live without it.

  • Unpopular Opinion

at 16 you understand the permanence of death, so if you choose to kill someone (not in self-defense), you should be charged as you are 26.

  • Raquel

Eh. I respectfully disagree. It's always easy to say what you would do in situations that other people experience. It's like watching a movie and you yelling at the screen about what you would do but if presented with that same scenario, your actions might totally differ. Have you been raped before? Trafficked? If no, then you can't really know what that could do to a person's mental state. It varies, and in her case, she sought revenge. Is it right? That's debatable. But I do know that most sexual abuse victims aren't ever right after it.

  • Unpopular Opinion

Facts is I was molested by my own father at 2 years old. Assaulted by his brother for my entire teen years, yet no one is dead (at my own doing). I knew what murder and death meant. I knew the consequence of prison. I ran away AT 16 and got my life together and went to therapy (still going)- SO I CAN SPEAK ON

  • 11pink123

I domt agree. Yeah she did the crime, but she already did the time. Because she was a child that grown men took advantage of. So it shouldve made more since to give her 15-20 years, not life. Plenty of ppl murder someons for less reasons as adults and they get about 15-20 years. She got life as a minor who was being pimped and tricked out. She deserves a second chance.

  • Unpopular Opinion

maybe I'm strong minded and maybe you're sick!

  • the guest

Congratulations to Ms. Brown on her freedom and Netflix contract! I wish her all the happiness and prosperity in the world.

  • Crazy tee

They said she has gotten some rehab in prison and she also received her college degree in prison as well so hopefully this will help a little....

  • SpiceGirl
  • the guest

  • Coco17

And those traffickers dope these young girls up with drugs to make junkies out of them to sell them to predators. Its horrible. No one should do life for fighting against their oppressors.

  • Coco17

Totally different situation. But im sorry to hear this happened to you. Everyone is different too. But only God can judge her.

  • Lady_Elle

Hmmmm since you want to go there... How would YOU do it? Just something for you to think about.
Easy to sit on the sidelines and have an opinion.

To generalize people who are raped & trafficked sucks!

I was ALMOST raped... I can say with certainty that I wanted to KILL the college professor. It is your word against the accused!

I felt fear, anger, and fright!

  • Renee26

This is her chance at a different life...she need not fugg it up

  • Renee26

Chiiile, I'm writing a book... You should too

  • Renee26

I agree her actions were inexcusable. There are tons of people in jail with similar stories. Toxic childhood situations can lead to lives of crime but in the end it's a choice to do wrong not a definite. There are plenty of people who chose a different pathway. She killed him in cold blood as he slept and returned to rob him. That's not self defense regardless of him being a pervert and people being glad he's no longer breathing.

The justice system is flawed and many times people don't get the punishment they deserve.

This girl is LUCKY she had the support she did and she needs to do right now that she's been given a second chance at life.

  • Unpopular Opinion

    Fully Agree!

  • Coy little wink

Yes boo I'm on it ?

  • Unpopular Opinion

They did not have sex. She lied to him about her age. She shot him in his
sleep. He was not abusing her and yes he picked her up for sex but they
did not even have sex. He feed her and allowed her to sleep in his home.
    If someone so scared
why she fall asleep?? She took his money.

If anyone she should have killed Kut throat he was the one actually
abusing her but instead she kills this man and goes to party with the
    guy abusing her.

No doubt she’s a victim of her community but damn people just be making shit up online.

There are so many others that deserve freedom and clemency.

  • Renee26

Ignore and block them.... That was very savage of them to say

  • Lady_Elle

There was a couple of sprite kids that killed 5 people in a mid-west middle school.

Mitchell Johnson and Andrew Golden were minors at the time of the 1998 shooting – 13 and 11, respectively – when they killed five people in what was then the second-deadliest U.S. school shooting, Arkansas state law mandated that they be released on their 21st birthdays, with their records sealed.

These two were able to blend in after this heinous crime. One recently died in a traffic accident. He changed his name after prison.

Sorry someone lost their life with this woman... she should not have been doing life for her crime. The color of her skin made the difference imo.

    She should change her name.

  • Unpopular Opinion

What's so different? Clearly something at home (most likely sexual abuse) caused her to run away, have an older (pimp) boyfriend, and to get hooked on drugs then escalated to prositution. The only difference is CHOICES! I CHOSE NOT! All humans have choices.

  • Renee26

And if she was hell bent on revenge why didn't she kill the boyfriend?? SMH

  • Unpopular Opinion

After I saw freedom, I would have left and not returned to shoot him in the head, rob, then steal his car then go party with my friends & PIMP. Why the hell would I GO BACK?

  • Sonya Jackson

Im sorry HuGs to you. There isnt much i can say for comfort im so sorry you didnt deserve this

  • Ruth

Now let’s get out the rest of the black folks serving life for drug offences!

  • Unpopular Opinion

    Thank you

  • SandraRose

She's a sociopath, and sociopaths can't be rehabilitated. I worked as a nurse in a girls' jail filled with Cyntoia Browns. I pray I never run into one of them on the street.

  • Rhyme and Reason

The system and naysayers are waiting on her to slip!

The company she keeps; while in that hole, I pray she chooses the right man, mate!

  • Renee26

When you finish let me know... I will support!

  • Raquel

I'm sorry that happened to you. And I can't speak on yours or this girl's state of mind in the aftermath but I think that people respond to trauma differently. You dealt with in a different manner (thank God) but for some people, it triggers something else like violence, suicide, drugs, etc. Some people are just stronger than others, I guess.

  • Rhyme and Reason

    Please do! You never know!

Shonda Rhimes has a Master Class for television writing, $90 for one class or $180 for a year of full-access to a wide selection of Master Classes: creative writing, storytelling, cooking, etc.

There are some Master Class excerpts or intros on YouTube!

  • Robert lee Bennett OG

This is awful this killer gets a get out of jail card

  • Rhyme and Reason

I’ve read many of the comments, and there people for and against her release!

I’m ok that she got a second chance, and realize she took a man’s life, and he has loved ones who are not celebrating this release!

She was a minor, did 15 years, and if she had been sentenced to a prison time with the possibility of parole, a pardon wouldn’t have been needed!

She was a runaway, underage sex worker, aware of what she was doing, a sociopath, and initially didn’t have remorse until she got life in prison!

But, many murderers plead down to manslaughter everyday, and white juvenile offenders would have been released years ago. It’s our judicial system, and it is what it is, better than most!

  • WhoKnew

    "The company she keeps"

    Yassss! This!

  • Tammie Reed

    Good for her!

  • Coco17

Oh ok. Who made up something wasnt sure. Well its in God's hands. So even though you and others may not think she deserves to be out the fact remains, she is out. I dont know the whole story. However this is her journey. So hopefully she turns her life around and reach back and helps someone else.

  • WhoKnew

What if, Sandy Mae? What if "that jail life" was enough for her to want to never see the inside of a jail again, which means she will tow the line and follow the law. Everyone of us has been through something. I was a hard-headed teenager but for Jesus....

There's an old saying grandmama nem use to say. Everybody has dirt on them and if you ain't never had no dirt on you than you don't need Jesus because he wants to cleanse and save those with dirt on them, those that have been through something.

It also reminds me of when Mary Magdalene was about to be stoned for prostitution and Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. Then he said let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!

Point. None of us are perfect. We're human. We make mistakes.

  • Coco17

It wasnt family that raped her she was trafficked by a stranger or a person she didnt know. That makes it different. Its a different scenario.

  • Coco17

Ok we get your opinion. But i hope your ok.

  • Coco17

Me too. Wishing her the best. Some people on here making this story about them...smh

  • onelove

she is not going to like it out here

  • Trentaye

N_ggah reasoning @ it's best. Black people are notorious for coddling, harboring and defending black "heterosexual" criminals. Be they Drug Dealers, Gang-bangers, Pimps, Rapists or even (case in point), MURDERERS! However, they make LGBTQ people the bane of and scourge on all humanity, while protecting the "Pooky" super predators.

  • TheWildChild

I recall reading about her years back ? but the article I read indicated the guy she killed as her live-in pimp. Didn't realize it was a one-time encounter she was accused of attempting to rob. Glad she's able to have a fresh start and hopefully succeed in life this time around.

  • Kimberly King

Uh..... But that's you though. You can't expect everyone to respond to being raped the same way. Everybody don't wanna turn the other cheek! That's that slavery / MLK approach. And I'm sure if you off'd your creepy ass pops or uncle, the courts would have possibly understood your position. I'm glad she's getting released and a 2nd chance at life. Good luck on your therapy.

  • Kimberly King

Girl lmfao why did you say this ? I can't unsee this

  • Kimberly King

Exactly ! It's some weirdos in the garden

  • WhoKnew

Open post: Did anyone read these two crazy stories?

A man tried to escape from a Brazilian jail dressed at his daughter wearing some sort of mask she had made of her face and wearing her clothes? Dude that might work on a reality TV show but not real life.

Then I read a story about a man who was shot and killed and after the funeral about 100 people started fighting outside of the church. Is it something strange in the milk or water that's making people go loco?

  • Logan Roberts

Light skin privilege wins again. I hope you use your second chance wisely miss.

  • Unpopular Opinion

I don't expect the same reaction our of every did I ever say that?

Your shade eliminated your phony well wishes. I said what I said. Who would wait to see if a court will side (understand) with them? The same courts that forced me to go live with the molesters after my mom died because of parental rights (while at the same time the fact that my "father" had molested me was already well documented in that same court)? The same courts that upheld and continue to uphold modern day slavery? You sound like a fool if you consider me running away and rebuilding my life "turning the other cheek" then you lack the minimal comprehension to even be granted a conversation with me. You go ahead and kill whoever wrongs you and GOOD LUCK with that. LOL

  • MzApple

The man who tried to escape was found in his cell hanging after they returned him to jail.

  • Erika White Williams

Get her name right Sandra Rose!

  • SandraRose

    Lol. Auto-correct. ?

  • WhoKnew

Really? I didn't hear about that. Hmmm. Interesting. Just went and read the story... SMDH.

  • speakinmymind

"most likely" = not a fact. You don't know the intimate details of her life and although I can empathize with what you went through, the tone of your comments comes across as very bitter and judgmental. You have every right to be bitter - that's your choice - but it would serve you much better to forgive yourself and not be so harshly judgmental of other victims.

  • Connie

She's going to have to watch out for all the leach on kinda people though.
And the ones who're gonna provoke her to violate her parole

  • Unpopular Opinion

and you clearly don't know the intimate details of THIS case.

    P.S. bitter people MURDER others.

    I don't need your half-assed empathy.

  • KarmaBackAround

Ok..idk about this girl story..but why is she being let out? Was the murder self defense? Im lost...

  • Let them eat cake

boyfriend is dead now. killed at age 24 smh.

  • WhoKnew

Open post: There are reports of an active shooter at the USA Newspaper and the building has been evacuated. A gun is on the loose again...smh.

I hope this young lady turns out to be everything ppl want her to be. I wish her the best, but I have questions. So you mean to tell me that prisoners can get three meals a day and a college degree, but kids can't get free breakfast and lunch at school? How sway?

  • Dollmeshia Dee-Dee Clark

I thought her sentence was reversed but she still has 15 yrs parole???????????

  • interestingconcept1

There is something about her...but I cant judge, I dont know what it's like to grow up like that.well I wish her the best with this second chance.

Let her go move in next door to Kum or Rihanna. Please don't come here.

I thought felons couldn't profit from their crimes. I hope the victim's family comes for her. I believe she needs to do her time. She is a murderer!

  • dontgetblocked

    Mixed girl

  • chris

    Kill the pimp

  • Bee jaay Cee

But that's not a murder sentence because he slept with her, and she came back with friends and robbed him. Knew of a girl who is developmentally disabled, very high functioning. She ran away and was picked up by 2 black men. She told them she was 24 and she looked it, but she was only 15. They ended up dropping her off and she felt rejected, so she went to the police. Last I heard, they were facing charges. You'd have to know this girl to know that I felt more sorry for the men.

  • Raquel

Sounds like you need some D in ya life. Or some poosay. ? Who TF is bringing up the goddamn alphabet committee?? No one.

Take ya fruity pebbles ass on. ?

  • SayWhatNow?

I never said that it was. Thats why I said she should have just cut off his penis.....

  • Queen B

I thought the dude she killed was her abuser? What am I missing here ?

  • Marlika

She deserve to rot in prison. She took someone’s like while they laid sleep not while she was being attacked. I hope his family comes after that dry twat Kim and Rihanna.

  • Janice Collins

She was let out because the narrative is she was unfairly sentenced. I too hope she takes this opportunity to do and be.

  • Janice Collins

Nope. She original said it was a plan to rob him. Her lawyers helped her to understand she was used or so they say

  • Janice Collins

Nope some of them suppose to have life.

  • Janice Collins

But we don't all kill people in there sleep. It takes a certain detachment to do that

  • Janice Collins

But she didn't kill her oppressor, she killed a man that thought he was sleep with a prostitute he paid. The oppressors are the pimps and the people that know what he is doing and say nothing

I wasn't talking about the one in the orange jumpsuit but go off sis

But where is the LIE? That last comment was a poor example of an ad hominem attack, but then again, you most likely don't know what that means... since you sh!t hop people usually don't read. I don't blame you, I blame the public school system.

    LOL....I'm familiar with logical fallacies.
