The brother of Olympic gold medal gymnast Simone Biles is charged with murder after he shot and killed three people at a party at an AirBnB rental apartment in Cleveland, Ohio eight months ago.
Police say a fight broke out when uninvited guests arrived at a party at a $155 per night AirBnB apartment rental above a pizza shop on New Year’s Eve in Cleveland.
Three people were killed when Tevin Biles-Thomas allegedly opened fire inside the crowded apartment.
The victims were identified as Devaughn Gibson, 23, DelVaunte Johnson, 19, and Toshon Banks, 21. Two others were injured in the shooting.
Biles-Thomas, 24, was arrested on Thursday at Fort Stewart in Georgia, where he was on active duty with the U.S. Army. He is being held without bond at Liberty County jail pending extradition back to Cleveland.
Police did not disclose the evidence that led them to suspect Biles-Thomas was the shooter.
“The relentless persistence of Cleveland police homicide detectives helped secure an indictment in this case,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor O’Malley told Cleveland.com.
Simone Biles, 22, was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She is the third of three siblings.
Her birth mother, Shanon Biles, was an alcoholic and drug addict who was unable to care for Biles and her siblings. The four children were placed in foster care, then adopted by family members.
In a tweet after the news broke of her brother’s arrest, Biles wrote, “eating my feelings don’t talk to me.”
Instagram and Twitter trolls immediately flooded her timelines with hateful comments.
One IG user wrote, “Your brother is a murderer and your parents are drug addicts you call your grandparents “mom and dad” you used drugs and covered it up as ADHD, wow some drama you are.”
