Republican Gov. Matt Bevin, left, has apparently lost the Kentucky governor’s race to a Democrat in Tuesday’s elections. Democratic state attorney general Andy Beshear led Bevin by a slim margin of 4,658 votes, but it was enough for the Democrats to declare an “earth shattering victory” over the Republican governor.

Bevin refused to concede the governor’s race to Beshear, saying the race was “too close to call.” He said, “We know for a fact there have been irregularities and the outcome will be determined by law.”

In other races Virginia Democrats took control of both the state House and Senate for the first time in 26 years on Tuesday, according to Dailymail.com.

It is the third election in a row that Virginia Democrats have won significant legislative victories since President Donald Trump was elected in 2016. The legislative elections on Tuesday provided a test of President Trump’s political influence in local elections.

Democratic National Committee chairman Tom Perez said Trump should be “terrified” of Beshear’s “earth-shattering victory” in a state that Trump won by 30 points in 2016.

Brad Parscale, Trump’s 2020 campaign manager, blamed Bevin for the apparent loss, saying five other Republican candidates won their races in the state.

Parscale said President Trump practically “dragged Gov. Matt Bevin across the finish line, helping him run stronger than expected in what turned into a very close race at the end.”

President Trump took credit for the Republicans’ 5 out of 6 election wins in Kentucky on Tuesday night.
