A 20-year-old Michigan woman secretly video recorded her boyfriend wiping his fingerprints off bullets before loading a handgun and shooting her to death.
India Mackey, of Detroit, died a day after her 20th birthday. She used her cell phone to secretly record 18-year-old Kevin Dixon as he loaded a weapon while sitting in the passenger seat of a van in a parking lot.
Mackey, who was in the driver’s seat, had argued with Dixon before she was killed.
“You think I’m playing, huh? Gonna hit you with these hollow-tip 45s,” Dixon is heard saying in the video. Mackey stopped recorded a moment before she was shot in the head, according to WXYZ-TV news.
“This video is being taken by a woman who is going to be killed in moments,” Macomb County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Smith told WXYZ-TV.
“It’s unbelievable to me. The idea that he’s pulling the bullet out, wiping his fingerprints off, showing it to her.”
Dixon then got out of the van and moved Mackey into the passenger side. He got behind the wheel and began driving the van erratically. He used Mackey’s cell phone to call his mother and ask her to hide the murder weapon.
His erratic driving caught the attention of a police officer in nearby Eastpointe. The officer pulled him over and found the mortally wounded Mackey in the van.
She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Dixon’s mother has also been charged as an accessory after the fact and tampering with evidence, according to WJBK-TV.
Mackey’s father, Joseph Polk, said he warned his daughter about dating Dixon. “I didn’t like the young man and I got the wrong vibes from him,” Polk told WJBK-TV.
“I told her, I talked to her, I said, ‘He’s not the one for you, baby.’ I try to pride myself on being a protector, but you can’t protect your kids from who they interact with,” said Polk, adding that he has 8 children.
