Dwyane Wade‘s ex-wife is apparently not on board with his new “woke” agenda. Dr. Siohvaughn Funches still refers to her youngest child, Zion Wade, as her son.
Wade and his wife, troubled actress Gabrielle Union, 47, delighted in telling the world that 12-year-old Zion is now a “Zaya”, a “transgender” girl.
But Funches apparently did not get the memo. While she hasn’t spoken out publicly about her emotionally troubled child, insiders say she still refers to Zion as her son.
Sources say the deeply religious Funches, who divorced Wade when Zion was a toddler, refers to the boy as Zion, not Zaya, as he prefers to be called nowadays.
She also uses male pronouns for Zion and his older brother, Zaire Wade, 18.
Zaire, a standout basketball player at L.A.’s Sierra Canyon Day School, is very supportive of Zion. He penned a heartfelt note to his little brother, whom he calls his best friend.
Man, I remember bugging my mom as a kid telling her I wanted a brother so bad. I was the only child looking for company and someone to look after and take care of,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have been blessed to have my best friend, Zaya with me for 12 years. We did everything together…we fought, we played, we laughed and we cried. But the one thing we never did was leave each other behind…”
