Rapper Future Hendrix is reportedly disappointed that his eldest son’s gang associates led him down the wrong path. 17-year-old Jakobi Wilburn was arrested and charged with gang activity and gun possession charges last month.
Future, whose real name is Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, offered to cover his son’s legal fees after he learned Jakobi faces 20 years in prison if convicted.
Jakobi was arrested in a gang bust in Georgia, where he’s also reportedly facing charges of trespass and altering the ID of a firearm. He was allegedly found in possession of a gun with the serial number scratched off.
The teenager is listed as “indigent” on his arrest paperwork and he was assigned a public defender.
According to TMZ, Future along with Jakobi’s mother, Jessica Smith, have retained some of the best lawyers to represent their son in court.
Smith, told the publication she and Future have been on top of the legal case, as they’re actively involved in his life, adding, “Our son is a minor and to protect his well being in this trying situation, we ask that everyone please respect our privacy at this time.”
Insiders say Future, who fathered 7 or 8 other kids with as many women, was estranged from Smith and Jakobi for years until Smith learned her baby daddy was a platinum-selling rapper.
Future reportedly reunited with his firstborn son when the child was 11.
