It seems RuPaul is having no luck beyond his popular RuPaul’s Drag Race show. Netflix just canceled RuPaul’s ‘AJ and the Queen’ series, which was aimed at introducing children to the drag culture.
RuPaul announced the cancelation on Twitter.com on Friday. “End of the road for ‘AJ and The Queen’ @Netflix has decided to not extend our road trip across America. Thank you for all the love & support. We’re so very proud of the work,” he tweeted alongside a promotional image from the show.
AJ and the Queen starred RuPaul as drag queen Ruby Red who travels around the country in an RV with 11-year-old tomboy orphan AJ (played by actress Izzy Gaspersz).
RuPaul, real name RuPaul Andre Charles, created the show along with writer Michael Patrick King. Sadly, it didn’t click with audiences who are wary about the LGB and T communities targeting children.
The ten-episode series premiere in January to little fanfare and raised eyebrows.
