Dr. Dre, real name Andre Young, is requesting his pre-nuptial agreement be enforced in his divorce from wife Nicole Young.
Nicole, 50, filed for divorce in June after 24 years of marriage. Nicole, who shares two adult children with Dre, cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce paperwork. The couple married on May 25, 1996.
Dr. Dre’s net worth is estimated to be around $800 million after he sold his Beats by Dre audio products to Apple Inc. for $3 billion in cash in 2014.
Nicole’s lawyer cited irreconcilable differences in her petition to end the couple’s marriage, and now Dre, 55, has responded to the divorce petition via top celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser.
In the new paperwork, obtained by TMZ, Dre notes the date of separation as March 27, 2020 shortly after the coronavirus lockdown began.
Dre said he has no issue paying spousal support, but he wants the pre-nup enforced to protect his assets.
The mega producer is seeking to have any division of property made in accordance with their pre-nup, which was not mentioned in Nicole’s divorce documents.
California is a community property state, meaning couples are entitled to equal distribution of assets acquired during a marriage.
Dre has a total of 6 children, including a son named Marcel with singer Michel’le. He fathered his first child when he was 16 years old.
This is the 2nd divorce for Nicole, who was previously married to former NBA player Sedale Threatt.
