Kim Kardashian is using her considerable political connections to help free incarcerated rapper C-Murder, real name Corey Miller.
After new evidence allegedly came to light, the reality TV star and lawyer-in-training Kim, 39, has turned her attention to freeing the 49-year-old who is best known as the love of singer Monica‘s life.
According to insiders, Monica reached out to Kim via private message on Twitter and pleaded with her to help free her man.
C-Murder is pictured in 2006 with a former girlfriend in his native New Orleans.
The former rapper, brother of rap mogul Master P, was convicted in 2009 of the shooting of 16-year-old fan Steve Thomas at a nightclub. He maintained his innocence but was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
Miller was released from prison on house arrest in 2003 after Judge Martha Sassone granted a new trial based on the claim that prosecutors withheld key information.
But Judge Sassone lost her 2008 bid for re-election to Judge Ellen Kovach, who reviewed a prosecutor’s request to send Miller back to jail.
In 2009, while still on house arrest, Miller was convicted of second-degree murder and sentence to life in prison.
Two witnesses have since recanted their testimony, saying their witness statements were coerced by investigators.
“The jury convicted Corey 10-2 and he was sentenced to life in prison. If his trial was today, the jury would have had to be unanimous for him to be convicted,” Kim tweeted on Sunday.
“Since his trial, witnesses have recanted, new evidence of his potential innocence has come to light, and there are claims of jurors being pressured into voting to convict,” Kim tweeted. “True justice for the young man requires that the person who actually killed him be held responsible and that Corey Miller be returned home to his kids.”
She added that she’s teaming up with Monica, who previously dated Miller, in a bid to prove his innocence.
“Corey deserves to come home to his girls and be the father they need, be the artist & leader he’s always been as well as spread hope to those who have also experienced this,” Monica said in a post on her Instagram page.
Monica, 39, has a history of failed relationships with emotionally unavailable men. She shares a daughter with ex-NBA star Shannon Brown (pictured) and 2 sons with rap producer Rocko Da Don.
Kim has actively advocated for criminal justice reform in the U.S. She successfully lobbied President Donald Trump to pardon grandmother Alice Marie Johnson, who was serving a life sentence without parole for a non-violent drug offense.
