Pregnant mom blogger Emily Mitchell died unexpectedly after her doctor told her to undergo a fifth Caesarean section.
Mitchell, 36, died three days before Christmas, along with her unborn child, a boy named Joey. Her family said she was eating breakfast on Dec. 22 when she suddenly collapsed and “became unresponsive.”
Mitchell was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. No cause of death was disclosed.
Mitchell, who homeschooled her 4 children in a farmhouse on Rhode Island, announced her fifth pregnancy on her lifestyle blog the Hidden Way on Nov. 19.

Mitchell had hoped for a home birth, but she was advised by her doctor to undergo her fifth Caesarean section. She defended C-sections in a post to her 112,000 followers on December 8.
“This will be my FIFTH C-Section. However your baby gets here, just know YOUR EXPERIENCE is valid and worthy. YOU are no less a mother if you needed emergency medical intervention, had a planned c-section, or an epidural. You aren’t a ‘better’ mother if you had a home birth or an unmedicated vaginal birth. And if you grew your brood through adoption or surrogacy or family blending? Those are YOUR babies and YOU SIT PROUDLY at the table of motherhood.?

“It’s not a competition. There aren’t awards handed out for homebirths or all-natural births. If you’ve been blessed with that, then that is incredible. Truly!! But if you haven’t, please know and believe you have STILL BEEN BLESSED. You aren’t less-than, or second-class for needing to rely on a team of doctors for surgery. ALL that matters is that you have a child brought into the world. Entrusted to you to love and nurture.”
According to Healthline.com, the most common reasons for a C-section are breech birth, fetal distress, and uterine rupture, which is the reason social media influencer Chrissy Teigen lost her unborn son.
