It isn’t every day that high school football players get invited to attend superstar NFL MVP and Heisman winner’s Cam Newton’s football camp.

Instead of appreciating the opportunity, one high school football player went viral for heckling the New England Patriots quarterback on Sunday.

Jseth Owens told Newton he was “about to be poor” since he’s a free agent.

Newton shot back, “I’m rich!” The two went back and forth until Newton asked if the boy had a father.

“Where’s your daddy at? Let me talk to your dad. Where’s your dad?”

After the video went viral, several professional athletes took to social media to criticize Owens for trash talking one of NFL’s greats.

Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young wrote: “Probably should ask him how to be a MVP in the league you probably wanna play in first.”

“Man I wish I had NFL players at my 7 on 7. Let alone a player as elite as Cam Newton,” tweeted Green Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. “Reality check, You got a guy who has reached every mile stone that we dreamed of as kids. You supposed to be picking his brain, being a sponge. Not a annoying fly that caused no damage to him.”

L.A. Sparks WNBA player Chiney Ogwumike wrote: “kids. kids. kids. please put some respect on his name… Heisman winner & NFL MVP.. This is a CAM NEWTON appreciation tweet. (and btw… “I’m rich” is a flex like no other.)”

And Philadelphia Eagles player Darius Slay wrote: “It blows my mind cause im sure that kid wants to be a Heisman trophy winner or a draft pick an Cam did both!!”

Owens later apologized to Newton, his coaches and his parents for his embarrassing behavior.
