Former Colorado police officers Austin Hopp and Daria Jalali were arrested Thursday and charged with abusing a 73-year-old dementia sufferer.

Hopp, 26, and Jalali, 27, turned themselves in on Thursday and are currently behind bars in the Larimer County Jail.

Hopp and Jalali are accused of using excessive force to arrest Karen Garner, a dementia sufferer who forgot to pay for $13.88 worth of merchandise from an Aurora Walmart.

Viral video of the brutal arrest sparked public outrage. The Loveland Police Department initially claimed they were unaware of the violent arrest.

CCTV video from inside the jail showed Hopp, Jalali and another officer cracking jokes while watching body cam footage of the brutal arrest.

“Ready for the pop?” said Hopp, referring to Garner’s dislocated shoulder. “What did you pop?” the other officer asked.

“I think it was her shoulder,” Hopp replied.

The Daily Mail revealed Hopp and Jalali were lovers during the time of Garner’s arrest on June 26, 2020.

Hopp, who was married to another woman, reportedly moved into Jalali’s new home in Windsor, Colorado, where they loved together until he abruptly moved out in February.
