A pit bull mauled a man like a chew toy when he climbed through a window in his family’s New Orleans home. The fatal dog attack occurred at a residence on South Claiborne Avenue at 6:41 p.m. on Sunday.

New Orleans Police spokesman Juan Barnes said the 66-year-old man suffered deep lacerations on both arms and died of severe blood loss. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was a relative of the family that resided in the home. The pit bull was the family pet.

The Louisiana SPCA took control of the dog as police continue the investigation.

Pit bulls are an aggressive breed that are trained to fight to the death. They kill by locking their massive jaws on the victim and shaking the victim like a rag doll.

The DailyMail.com reports there have been at least 11 fatal pit bull attacks so far this year, with 31 people killed by pit bulls in the first nine months of 2020. A majority of the victims were infants and toddlers.
