A 1-year-old girl was mauled by her family's pit bull dogs and will undergo a second surgical procedure, CBSLA reports.

Ruby Cervantes' mother Jamie Morales told CBSLA the family pets attacked the toddler without provocation.

The attack happened at Morales' home in Pico Rivera, California at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Morales said the 2 dogs were let inside the house and they immediately attacked Ruby. Morales watched in horror as the two Pitt bull dogs fought over little Ruby as if she was a chew toy.

Several family members tackled the 2 dogs to pry the baby from their jaws. However, the dogs became more aggressive and refused to let go.

That's when Morales grabbed a knife and stabbed the 2 dogs, killing one.

"It was very scary, I thought my daughter was going to die," Morales told CBSLA.

"I felt helpless. Me being helpless, and me not knowing what to do. The only thought in my mind was I had to kill him, I had to," she said.

Morales suffered bites to her face during the attack, but she was able to save her child.

Ruby's grandmother, Margaret Morales, was also injured when she tried to pry the dogs' jaws apart.

"My granddaughter's fine, she's in surgery right now... bit her ankle, her shoulder," Margaret told CBSLA outside the home.

The second pit bull was taken to Los Angeles County Animal Care and Control where it will be put down.

Surveillance video captured a woman fighting off a vicious pit bull attack in an elevator in Colombia.

According to reports, the 25-year-old woman was in her bedroom tying her sneakers when another resident's 4-year-old pit bull attacked her.

The woman, who was alone with the dog in her fifth floor apartment, dragged herself into an elevator.

In severe pain and bleeding profusely from multiple bites to her neck and both hands, the 25-year-old woman pressed the lobby button.

"Her reaction was to crawl to the door and go out into the hallway, hoping a neighbor would help her," a source told news.com.au. "When the animal jumped on her, the only thing she thought was that if she stayed on the fifth floor, no one was going to rescue her."

When the lobby doors opened, she crawled out, and people in the lobby rushed to subdue the dog. She was transported to Erasmo Meoz University Hospital.

"She has fractures in two fingers of her right hand, a phalanx on her left," a police spokesperson said, referring to a bone in her left hand. "She is still hospitalized and pending transfer to a clinic for a medical procedure."

A lawsuit alleges Cesar Millan's pit bull severely injured an aspiring gymnast and mauled one of Queen Latifah's dogs to death.

Lidia Matiss, who filed the lawsuit, alleges Cesar's dog not only has a history of extreme violence, but it allegedly attacked and killed Queen Latifah's pup, and he then tried to cover it up.

According to TMZ, Lidia claims she went to an office building owned by Millan in Van Nuys, CA in 2017. Lidia says she was visiting her mom, who worked for Cesar.

She says she encountered Cesar's pit bull, Junior, who was roaming the halls unsupervised and off his leash.

Lidia claims the dog attacked her, repeatedly biting her and seriously injuring her left calf. She went to the ER for treatment of severe dog bites.

The lawsuit says Lidia was a "star gymnast" who was being actively recruited by the University of Pennsylvania. However, everything changed after she was attacked and she could no longer compete due to the extreme pain.

Lidia's suit claims Cesar knew Junior had a history of violence yet regularly allowed the dog to roam free. She says the dog had bitten several people and mauled several dogs, including one dog owned by Queen Latifah.

According to the lawsuit, Queen Latifah brought 2 of her dogs to Cesar's Dog Psychology Center in Santa Clarita, CA. She says Junior mauled one of her dogs to death, and Lidia claims Cesar covered it up by telling his staff to tell Queen Latifah the dog was hit and killed by a car.

The 52-year-old celebrity dog trainer filed an answer to the lawsuit, claiming Lidia assumed the risk of being bitten because she knew of the danger. He also claims Lidia herself was negligent, although he doesn't say how.

Lidia says the bite left her impaired, wounded, disfigured and she continues to suffer physical and emotional pain. She's suing for unspecified damages.

The lawsuit is ongoing.

A pit bull mauled a man like a chew toy when he climbed through a window in his family's New Orleans home. The fatal dog attack occurred at a residence on South Claiborne Avenue at 6:41 p.m. on Sunday.

New Orleans Police spokesman Juan Barnes said the 66-year-old man suffered deep lacerations on both arms and died of severe blood loss. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was a relative of the family that resided in the home. The pit bull was the family pet.

The Louisiana SPCA took control of the dog as police continue the investigation.

Pit bulls are an aggressive breed that are trained to fight to the death. They kill by locking their massive jaws on the victim and shaking the victim like a rag doll.

The DailyMail.com reports there have been at least 11 fatal pit bull attacks so far this year, with 31 people killed by pit bulls in the first nine months of 2020. A majority of the victims were infants and toddlers.
