Delta Airlines is fining unvaccinated employees $200 a month, the airline announced on Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Unlike other airlines, Delta Airlines is not mandating vaccination for its employees.
Delta says the $200 monthly charge is “necessary to address the financial risk the decision to not vaccinate is creating for our company.”
The $200 fines will commence in November for unvaccinated employees enrolled in Delta Airline’s health care plan.
The insurance enrollment form states unvaccinated employees will be assessed a $200-a-month fine.
The news comes two days after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted full approval to Pfizer-BioNTech’s mRNA Covid-19 vaccine which was previously authorized for emergency use.
Pfizer-BioNTech can now market its vaccine directly to consumers under the brand name Comirnaty. It isn’t clear if Pfizer will charge consumers for booster shots.

The Biden administration is urging businesses to push the vaccines to their employers. About 100 million Americans have not received a single dose.
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio (center) is forcing public school teachers to get vaccinated.
De Blasio announced the mandate on Monday, Aug. 23.
He previously said all 400,000 city workers must be vaccinated or receive weekly Covid-19 testing.
But now, for public school teachers, weekly Covid-19 testing is not an option.
“We’ve got to make sure more and more people get vaccinated. We’ve got to make sure our schools are safe and healthy, in particular for our kids,” de Blasio said on Monday.
