Kanye West‘s new album, DONDA, has shot to the top of the Apple Music charts in 130 countries, becoming the platform’s biggest debut ever.
The much-delayed project dropped unexpectedly on Sunday morning, despite Kanye’s attempts to stall the release while he waited for clearance to feature DaBaby‘s verse on “Jail.”
Instead of DaBaby’s verse on the track, Jay-Z‘s verse remained.
In a series of social media messages overnight, Kanye’s manager, Bu Thiam, blamed DaBaby’s management for the hold-up.
He explained DaBaby’s manager hadn’t signed the necessary paperwork to clear his verse.
“We won’t be able to Upload unless we take him off,” Bu claimed.
However, DaBaby’s management denied Bu’s allegations.
Kanye responded by insisting he was “not taking my brother off”, adding: “So the album is not coming out… God gotta bigger plans.”
Kanye took to Twitter on Sunday afternoon to vent his frustrations about the release, and made it clear he wanted to wait for clearance from DaBaby’s management.
“Universal put my album out without my approval and they blocked ‘Jail 2’ from being on the album,” he wrote.
Despite the hysterics, Ye’s 10th studio album – faturing 27 tracks – is a huge hit for Apple Music.
DONDA, named after the rapper’s late mother, was initially set for release last month, following the first of three listening parties in Atlanta, Georgia.
Meanwhile, Kanye’s arch nemesis, fellow rapper Drake announced his new release, Certified Lover Boy, is set to drop on Friday, Sept 3.
