The mother of two men charged with killing a Chicago cop and wounding her partner was arrested after she made an impassioned plea for her sons in a viral video.

Mothers everywhere sympathize with 41-year-old Evalena Flores, who was arrested during a confrontation with Chicago police at Christ Medical Center where she demanded to see her son, Emonte Morgan.

21-year-old Emonte Morgan was shot multiple times during a scuffle with Chicago Officer Carlos Yanez during a traffic stop at S. 63rd and Bell Streets on the city’s West Side.

Officer Yanez was also shot multiple times and is in critical condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Officer Ella French was shot in the face when she rushed to assist her partner. French, 29, was later pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Emonte and his brother Eric Morgan, 22, were taken into custody on Saturday night. A female passenger later turned herself in and was not charged. She is cooperating with police.

Flores said Chicago residents fear the police. “My boys are not monsters at all… there is another side,” she said.

“I don’t believe a damn thing CPD says. And I can guarantee you this, my boys was afraid, I’m afraid… Adults are afraid of the CPD… I’m not a criminal… but, if a cop get behind me, my heart drops.”

At the conclusion of the livestream, Flores said:

“We fear our police here, we fear them… I need to be a voice for my boys. And that’s all I gotta say. Let me get in this hospital to see my damn son!”

Police say that an officer was guarding the room where Emonte is being treated after being shot multiple times during Saturday’s incident.

Flores allegedly entered the area via a security door, “causing a disturbance,” according to a report provided by a police source to NBC 5.

“As Flores attempted to push her way past the Officer’s [sic] she kicked a Christ Hospital Public Safety Officer in the groin. Flores continued to resist efforts to take her into custody while demanding to her son.”

The YouTuber who uploaded Flores’s video captioned it:

“Once again, a black woman embarrasses the world and fails to accept responsibility or reprimand her criminal offspring.”
