Jon Gruden abruptly resigned Monday as the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after more offensive emails were reported.

Gruden told the team he was resigning on Monday after more offensive emails surfaced. In one email, Gruden reportedly referred to Joe Biden in 2012 as a “nervous clueless pu**y”.

On Monday night, Gruden released a statement, saying:

“I have resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. I love the Raiders and do not want to be a distraction. Thank you to all the players, coaches, staff, and fans of Raider Nation. I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone.”

In a previously leaked email that was sent in 2011, Gruden said NFLPA President DeMaurice Smith had “lips the size of Michelin tires”.

After the email leaked last week, Gruden apologized for his “insensitive remarks” about Smith. He claimed he was frustrated over the 2011 NFL lockout. He further explained that he often referred to “liars” as “rubber lips”.

In other emails, Gruden allegedly used homophobic and sexist language to refer to Michael Sam, the first openly ghey NFL player, and female NFL officials.

The emails were sent between 2010 and 2012 and came to light as part of a workplace misconduct investigation into the Washington Football Team.

Gruden was in the fourth year of a 10-year, $100 million contract he signed with the Raiders in 2018.

He previously coached the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2001.
