Traci Renee Braxton, younger sister of R&B superstar Toni Braxton, passed away early Saturday, March 12, following a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer. She was 50.

Her husband Kevin Surratt confirmed her death to TMZ:

“We have come to a time where we must inform the public that after a year of privately undergoing a series of treatments for Esophageal cancer our beloved Traci Braxton has gone on to glory.”

Traci Braxton never disclosed her cancer battle publicly.

Toni and the Braxton family issued a statement on Instagram on Saturday:

“It is with the utmost regret that we inform you of the passing of our sister, Traci. Needless to say, she was a bright light, a wonderful daughter, an amazing sister, a loving mother, wife, grandmother and a respected performer. We will miss her dearly.

Traci passed this morning as the snow was falling, our angel is now a snowflake.

We ask that you respect our privacy as we plan to send her home with love, celebrating her life.

We are family forever.

Traci is best known as a cast member of her family’s reality TV series “Braxton Family Values” featuring siblings, Toni Braxton, 54, Towanda Braxton, 48, Trina Braxton, 47, Tamar Braxton, 44, and her parents Rev. Michael Braxton Sr. and Evelyn Braxton.

Traci was also a founding member of R&B singing group The Braxtons featuring her siblings. She is pictured far right in 2019 with (L-R): Towanda, Tamar, Evelyn, and Trina.

She leaves behind her husband Kevin Surratt and their son Kevin Surratt Jr., who wrote a loving tribute to his mother on Instagram.

“When I heard the news about my mother being sick first thing she said was I’m going to fight and beat this. She fought to the end and today she’s at peace. I love my mother forever and this hurts so much but I’m at peace knowing she’s isn’t in pain anymore.
I love you ma I’m going to miss you.”
