Lori Harvey sparked debate when she explained the starvation diet that helped her lose her “relationship weight.”

The Atlanta socialite explained that she gained 15 pounds of relationship weight after she began dating actor Michael B. Jordan.

In the video, the 25-year-old model says she takes a pilates class and sticks to a 1200-calorie deficit diet. That’s where the trouble begins for Lori on Twitter.

Most women know that eating 1200 calories a day is not enough food to sustain a healthy active adult. That’s like one slice of bread, an avocado sandwich, a baked potato, an apple and a banana per day.

Women who maintain a crash diet of 1200-calories a day look like they’re starving. It changes the shape of their face as the skin pulls away from the muscle and bone.

A 1200-calorie starvation diet is usually maintained for 7-14 days max for weight loss. It is not recommended for active women who burn more energy in a single day.

A 2000-calorie per day diet is considered standard to meet most women’s energy and nutritional needs. A 3000-calorie diet is recommended for men, since men work harder than women and require more energy and nutrients.

If you decide to go on a starvation diet like Lori, make sure you consult with your doctor or a licensed dietitian.
