Atlanta police said nearly $100,000 in cash was stolen from ex-NBA star Vince Carter’s Buckhead mansion while his wife and kids were inside.
Carter’s wife, Sondi Carter, called 911 around 11:50 p.m. Sunday to report she heard a loud noise and she feared someone was breaking into the 10,000-square-foot home off Northside Drive in Buckhead’s affluent Tuxedo Park neighborhood.
According to the police report released Wednesday and obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Sondi Carter was in bed with her two sons when she heard loud noises. They hid in a closet and she called 911, then texted her neighborhood patrol. A neighborhood patrol officer saw a man fleeing in a black SUV but was unable to catch him, The AJC reported.

Two guns and more than $16,000 in cash were found discarded outside the home, police say.
Carter, 45, told police the recovered money was a small part of $100,000 in cash he kept in a bag in a closet, the report said.
Police said a front window on the main house was shattered. Outside, officers found “a large amount of $100 bills spilled on the ground,” along with a gold Desert Eagle handgun and a black Glock 26 pistol with an extended magazine, the police report said. The Desert Eagle gun was registered to Carter, but investigators believe the burglar was carrying the Glock and it fell when he fled the scene, the incident report said.
Carter married Ellen Rucker, a chiropractor, in July 2004. The couple divorced in 2006 and share one daughter. Carter and his wife Sondi Carter have a son and a daughter.
The 8-time All-Star guard/forward won the 1999 NBA Rookie of the Year award as a member of the Toronto Raptors.
He played 5 years with the Brooklyn Nets (then in NJ) before moving on to play for the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and Memphis Grizzlies.
He now works as a sports analyst for ESPN.
