Gun control legislation that millions have prayed for will soon become reality in America.

In a surprise move over the weekend, 10 Republicans in the Senate reached a compromise with Democrats on a sweeping gun control legislation proposal.

The news sparked outrage among gun lovers, and comes a week after House Democrats passed the most restrictive gun reform package in history.

The House approved a gun reform bill last week, but political analysts yawned, because they knew gun legislation would never make it past the Senate.

That is, until this weekend, when ten Republican senators agreed not to filibuster the package, which would have doomed the gun reform bill.

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut, one of the lead negotiators, released a summary of the new agreement reached by Senate GOP members and Senate Democrats.

The bill will allow states to implement so-called “red flag” laws, increase spending for mental health services and school-safety measures, and close the “boyfriend loophole,” that previously blocked domestic abusers from buying guns.

The new legislation will also place restrictions on licensed gun dealers, and strengthen the existing background-check system for gun buyers under 21, to include a review of juvenile and mental health records, and stronger penalties for firearm straw purchases (to keep guns out of the hands of convicted felons and gang members).

The new gun reform proposal quickly received the President’s backing on Sunday night. Joe Biden has said he will sign the new bill immediately.

Question: Are you surprised that both chambers of Congress agreed to Gun Control so quickly in your lifetime?

Outraged gun lovers reacted swiftly to the news on Twitter.
